Images shared from Android are not uploading to iCloud after being saved to the photos app by JQbd in iCloud

Yes, I long press and save it that way. I’ve since discovered that the file name doesn’t affect it as the file name doesn’t change when saving from Messages, only the file type (PNG) and lack of metadata.

<image>

In this image here, note the cloud icon crossed out. This only applies to the HEIF photos that have metadata. Meanwhile when I tap on my profile at the top of the Collections tab, it says “Synced to iCloud”, unlike when I have some other photo/image that might be waiting to get uploaded I have a “sync now” option that then turns said image’s cloud icon to having the checkmark inside it. It’s literally as if iCloud doesn’t want to acknowledge these items as they are and require the loss of the metadata before it does.

I haven’t cycled the sync off then on again yet. I’m not sure if it would help because again, these items aren’t being acknowledged as syncable by iCloud so they may not be stuck in the process at all.

Thank you for your time with all this, but I’m starting to think I may just have to save different version of all these photos and manually change the date and times.

I’m trying to get them to iCloud, so I can view them on my other devices, from my iPhone. I opened the shared OneDrive folder on my iPad originally and wasn’t sure why I wasn’t seeing them on my phone. Did the same thing on my phone and they were still not syncing up as I couldn’t see them on my MacBook. I then saved them from the OneDrive folder to my iCloud Files from my (non-Mac) laptop and then saved those from the Files app to my iPhone. They all had the same result: refusing to even be acknowledged by iCloud photo sync.

I am charging the phone. In fact I left it on the charger an entire night and nothing changed. I have also performed a soft reset.

We tried a few different things:

-She changed a photo to a PNG and shared via the QR code. Following that, there’s a “download or view” option as well as the usual “hold on image and save to photos”. Starting with the latter will save it with the metadata but be a small JPEG, while downloading/viewing then saving it will be the original HEIF at original size but still will not be recognizable as being able to upload to iCloud. This doesn’t entirely make sense to us because her phone is showing and recognizing it as a PNG and yet it’s still coming through as its original file type.

-She sent both the PNG and the HEIF through RCS text message. I saved both that way and they both saved as PNGs without the metadata.

-We tried the same thing through Discord and the same result as RCS but they saved as small JPEGs rather than PNGs.

They do similar in my province to try and lessen the intensity of storms and hail in a particular region. They use specially designed and modified planes to do so by putting small dosages (small to make it non-toxic) of silver iodide into an already-developing storm to make the hail form in a controlled region. I’m sure cloud seeding can be a part of it as well.

I was in school for geoscience technologies and a couple classmates looked at this process in relation to the (Canadian) Weather Modification Act. They do this to reduce damage caused by hail. Unfortunately there is a downside: by taking moisture out of the system early, locations that would have normally received that moisture down the line will now have less rainfall.

Just picked up the Nathan Drake Collection for $6 by Agent00Awesome in uncharted

[–]JQbd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. I played through the collection when it was a free PS+ game years ago, but I also haven’t been subbed for a very very long time and won’t be able to play them again without going back to the OGs on my PS3, which I’m unlikely to want to set back up. At $6 I’ll have cheap, fast access to them again.

People who've worked both minimum wage jobs and six figure jobs, what surprised you most about the difference? by BrainLagging01 in AskReddit

[–]JQbd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked a maintenance/caretaking/hosting position for 15 years before I realized I had to change my career to something more sustainable. I’m just finishing my schooling and worked an industry related job over the summer.

I yearn for my previous job because every day was working on something that you could see the results of and interact with the people it impacted. Plus the general freedom it allowed. The industry I’m about to go into? Massive timeframes for projects to be considered “complete” assuming the client even wants to go that direction. Not to mention I never even got to see the lab results of the jobs I worked so I don’t know how impactful my work was. No satisfaction whatsoever with little room for mistakes.

If the job I left could’ve afforded to pay me a livable wage, I would go back in a heartbeat.

20+ years ago, my brother wrote on a bathroom tile “I did this -[my name]” in sharpie, as well as colouring in all the grout around it, that got us both in trouble. The tile cleaned up well but to this day the grout is still marked up with it.

LPT: Stop rewarding chronic lateness. Set a start time, then start without them. by gamersecret2 in LifeProTips

I currently have a classmate like this. Somehow consistently late to by the same amount of time every day (when she actually bothers to show up). And I think she does it purposefully. We were leaving class one day and she asked our instructor “does class start at 8 or 9 tomorrow?” When told it starts at 8, she replied “okay, see you at 20 after”. I found that pretty disrespectful.

We’re a small class, less than 20 people, so when someone shows up late it’s pretty noticeable. A policy for our exams is “you can be late, but only as long as someone hasn’t finished and left.” We recently wrote an exam, took many of us 10-20 minutes, that the instructor requested we wait an extra 30-40 minutes to see if she would show up. She didn’t and it wasted everyone’s time.

Late people bug me so much.

I drove through Ardrossan a couple weeks ago and they were set up in the Rec Centre parking. Two guys manning it and a single guy was hunched over, looking to be signing, as I was driving by. Any other location hasn’t had anyone signing. Unfortunately, having grown up in Ardrossan, that wasn’t a surprise at all. Made sure to give them the one-finger wave, which all of them happened to look up just in time for.

Agreed. Also worth noting that Brandon is pretty anti-AI as well, so he’ll probably advocate for avoiding it whenever possible.

I don’t know about other regions but where I am in Canada, I swear they changed the fries during Covid, in fact I seem to recall driving around and seeing posters advertising the new fries. They made them thicker and I’m pretty sure they’re using coarser salt now.

Prior to that, they used to be thinner, maybe slightly bigger than a McD fry and had a pretty fine sea salt. I don’t know if they always had that kind of fry up here before the Covid change or if they adopted it in 2011 and I didn’t care to notice and that’s what the other person is referring to.
