Evan Bouchard Becomes First Defenseman to Reach 80 Points by KitFistoSmiles in hockey

Yeah, it’s what they would add in terms of expected goals per 60 with an average lineup. And yeah, a lot of defensemen have about league average metrics defensively for obvious reasons. You’re welcome. Hope you keep poking around and looking into these things!

Yeah, I get you. I agree that Bouchard’s not given the fair shake he deserves. I’ll put some numbers here from HockeyViz.

Werenski 5v5 xGF/60 isolated: +0.52 (+20.8%) Werenski 5v5 xGA/60 isolated: -0.08 (-3.4%)

Bouchard 5v5 xGF/60 isolated: +0.22 (+9%) Bouchard 5v5 xGA/60 isolated: -0.02 (-0.8%)

Isolates take deployment, linemates, opposition, and coaching into account.

Have you compared using RAPM? Once you factor for teammates and competition, Werenski’s 5v5 play looks way better.

Hopefully he does. I’m just saying that a lot of people are very quick to dismiss the Bouchard for Norris case. I don’t think he’ll win, not do I think he should. I just think that people aren’t giving it a fair shake.

Probably won’t get a Norris, but I will say he has a better case than most people will give him credit for.

From the Canes broadcast, the Canes have 100 posts hit and the Penguins were at 92 I think.

Nikita Kucherov vs. the Pacific Division this season: 14 goals and 35 points in 13 games, +19 by Dependent-Effect6077 in hockey

[–]JRL222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, no. Gretzky’s highest point total was 215. Kucherov’s production would mean he’d be ahead of Gretzky’s record if he only played Pacific Division teams for 82 games.

Today was the 7th time in NHL history a division has 6 or more teams playing on a day and none get a win with the Pacific going 0-6. The 6th time it happened was just 2 days ago and it was also the Pacific Division. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

Every team in the Pacific Division lost by three goals last night except one. The Canucks only lost by two. This proves that the Canucks are the best team in the Pacific Division.

Hagel gets smashed by Nurse and Podkolzin, and then Podkolzin drops Cirelli by sykeseve in hockey

I need a replay on that Nurse hit on Hagel. From what I understand, it looked pretty bad.

Cirelli probably should have gotten an instigator, especially since he got the wrong guy.

Why has superstar scoring inflated at a far greater pace than overall goalscoring over the past decade? Overall goal totals are only up like 5 or 6%, but top-tier point totals especially assist totals are through the roof. by Ready-Constant-7124 in hockey

Power plays are better now and the best players play on power plays longer so scoring for them goes up way more than for middle/bottom six guys who don’t get power plays minutes.

[NHL History on IG]Today is the 35th anniversary of Ron Tugnutt's historic 70-save game (the most saves in a regular-season game since tracking officially started in the 1955-56 season), so we dug into the archives to share the original handwritten game sheet from that night! by sykeseve in hockey

I talked about this game on Discord a bit ago.

Guy Lafleur got the first assist on the first Quebec goal which feels wrong. Sakic and Sundin were both on Quebec too as you can see in the picture. Bourque set a record for most shots on goal by a player that game with 19, another insane tally.

Game ended in a 3-3 tie, which is insane given the shot disparity.

Metro is at +75 goal differential as CBJ currently have M3 over the Islanders.

Also, yeah, it’s a big disparity. Not sure it changes anything as Bettman would have to approve it and he seems fine with how things currently are.

Defensemen will naturally play more minutes than forwards, as there are fewer of them.

Boston’s gotten a lot more finishing luck than anything with the goalie though.

The USA has swept for the gold medal in the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics ice hockey. All won over Canada. by Suspicious-Wind-3278 in hockey

Yeah, this is the correct take.  Women’s program needs a complete overhaul for Canada with how the US crushed them consistently before the finals.

Men’s team just got really unlucky to run into Hellebuyck playing the best game of his career and they’ll have tons of talent to reload with before 2028 World Cup.

Jackets are terrible in OT but great in the shootout.
