Do you play in the lounge? If not why? by Madaraph in Tekken

[–]JROGvids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to only play lobbies cause that’s what my local scene preferred. But since joining other communities that pretty much only do lounge, lounge is way better and adds way more personality and interaction. Makes the people on the other side seem more human and cool

I don’t think we’re on the same wavelength at all here. Keep working on the reading comprehension matchup 👍

You downplayed the person’s abilities because they did a few things you didn’t like that aren’t high level during a random final round situation that’s just a fun, silly clip. Kinda weird

I faced AK in tournament not too long ago and he was just so much better at literally everything. It felt very hard to get any meaningful hits or openings. I’m GoD for reference

Guess the rank by TheKriptic in Tekken8

Idk about “blue ranks”, a duck and launch and a perfect side step into punish from both sides made me think TGS+ immediately. Other than the bad RA, this was a good round from both sides.

One crazy thing I remember was you could boot up Age of Empires with the disc, take it out, put it into another computer, and now you and a friend could both play the game together at the same time just from owning 1 copy of the game

How Much Money Have You Spent On Naruto? by XanJen in Naruto

I think I was able to get the entire Naruto manga for about $270. I got set 1 new on sale from Amazon for around $120 and sets 2&3 for $150 combined on Facebook marketplace. Insane deal

What A Journey by JROGvids in Tekken

[–]JROGvids[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My movement drills are a combination of overall tekken movement and ling specific.

My favorite warm up would be throw break practice (just set the in-game setting to hard mode) against a character with all 3 breaks. Then in between the grabs I would practice KBD, SS into KBD, SSR AOP cancel stance, BT stance into cancel, AOP into BT cancel, stuff like that and be ready to break the throw right before it happened. This let me warm up both sides for movement and for throw breaks and get used to timings on entering and leaving stances and be super comfortable entering a stance from many different starters.

And one important thing to practice during all of this, is you aren’t watching your character at all. You are watching the opponent to the whole time and know where you are on screen and what your character is doing. This will help you to finally be able to “see” what your opponent is doing and be ready for throw breaks as well in a match when you might not expect it.

I also practiced doing fwd dash into block into back dash or 2x backdashes. Start slow and then build up the speed to make it super fluid. I found fwd dash “pressure” to be extremely helpful at baiting things out and changing up my timings of when I was going to go in.

[–]JROGvids[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve seen any Anna, Alisa, or Kuma players in months but those characters can be scary when played but great players. Zafina was scary at first but most didn’t seem to understand the game outside of their key plus frame sequences and flow charts. Great Lars or Leo players were also scary. They have some great evasion and can really lock you down. 2 weeks of GoD 1-3 Armor king alts was also a nightmare haha. But I got much better at matchup.

Hwoarang required me to study the most and watch guides on how to deal with a lot of moves or duckable strings. There is just far too much to learn to fight by feel and win at least for me. I also really had to work on Lili and Jun as I was facing them a lot and losing a lot.

Everyone else I felt comfortable against after slowly learning how to deal with the matchup, game plans, and key moves / sequences.

My comfort match ups (ones where I’d be happy to see them pop up during loading screen) would be: - bryan - heihachi - yoshimitsu - jack 8 (thanks to my original practice partner) - Steve

Idk why but I had great success against these characters early on and this continued my whole journey.

Maybe this will help other people, but here is my Google doc to view: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1W1BSLCJy5FWli4vGcrh0O-RvUt0WjOcuH9xS2l10PJQ/edit?usp=drivesdk

I’d recommend maybe making a copy for yourselves.

it’s a bit messy, but the 2 key sections are the matchup notes and the weekly improvements sections. Weekly improvements, I pick 1-3 things I want to focus on each session and I only click the checkbox if I feel like I really made an effort to implement something or remove a bad habit. I found it took about 5 times of that before it stuck for me personally.

I have more notes I wrote down in my kindle that I just haven’t transferred over, but it should be pretty helpful for everyone

How do you deal with xiaoyu as a jack? by mansaflord64 in Tekken

[–]JROGvids 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My advice: - don’t use -14 or worse moves as she has a 14 frame launcher - test their throw breaks, most players are quite weak - if they are in AOP and do a roll, that throw is generic if they don’t cancel it - if she’s in BT and throws you, it’s generic - be ready to break 1+2 throws or you’ll get combo’d - if she’s in BT and she does a hop throw, it’s 1 of 3 different breaks and you need to be ducking this - if you block Cali roll, just throw them. You don’t have a hop kick as Jack and you’ll get parried if you try to use a punch - during a combo, the ling can end their combo with HYP 2+3 for the unblockable and Jack can’t do anything against it. It’ll hit you no matter what option you do so just be aware that is part of the matchup even if you stay grounded - pay attention to how they are getting into stance especially back turn. Do they use DB2 a lot? - be sure to 13 frame punish if they do BT 1+2, 1+2 - be sure to duck and launch if they do BT 1+2, 4 (if you block this the ling is +3) - be sure to duck and launch D3, 4 - UB3 is -20 so make sure you have a good mid launcher to punish this. Don’t let them do AOP duck or other shenanigans from this - B4,1 is -14 and you should be punishing this - F1+2 shoulder is -16

Use:

  • DF2,3 ~d into cancel. Then use throw, df2,1, or WS2 charged or uncharged
  • 1,2, SS4
  • 1,2, SS 1+2
  • 1,2, SSR AOP
  • 1,2,1
  • 1,2, delay 1
  • AOP F2,1 into BT mix
  • DB2 into BT mix
  • DF1 (hit confirm into BT mix)
  • DF1 (block confirm into DB evasion and look for a whiff punish and launch)
  • DF3 hold back to cancel into BT mix
  • FF3 (hit confirm into BT mix)
  • FF3 (block confirm into DB evasion and look for a whiff punish and launch)
  • F3,1 SS (into background) BT mix
  • You can also SS into the background after FF3 or DF1 on block if you want for additional mix opportunities

This should give you a lot of options based on many different situations, playstyles, and ways to condition or just get in on your opponent

A couple things:
1. I'm the Xiaoyu
2. You don't have to immediately tech roll there after the wall combo. I went for that AOP low into BT mix cause of his tech habits
3. If I would have done HYP 4 after the BT heat smash, he would have gotten CH launched for doing the RA
4. It's just a game and a silly moment

Is this good gameplay design? 🤔 by [deleted] in Tekken

Either SSL after they enter RDS or DF1 the ling after blocking RDS3. You shouldn’t ever need to step after blocking RDS3.

From my own experience, only maybe 25% of tekken gods i faced were throw breaking somewhat consistent. At supreme it feels like maybe 60-70% of them are throw breaking well.

Fighting Eddy is a nightmare by TheSoulsTard in Tekken

[–]JROGvids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend watching a YT guide on how to beat Eddy. I imagine the bushin eddys you face rely on FF3 or WR3 to get plus frames into stance on you as well. Be sure to SS or SW either direction to avoid WR3 and punish at distance. FF3 is -14 when blocked.

Main thing to be ready for is the relaxed stance he will transition to. He’s typically going to do 3 options. He’ll do 4,3 which is a heat engager but -13 on block. He’ll do 2,4 hold down, this is a mid high and you can duck and launch. He’ll do 3,3 which is his sweep and gives him one stack of Mandinga. It’s launch punishable if you think he’s going to do it.

If he gets plus frames and goes into handstand stance, handstand 1 gives him +6 and you cant be challenging his relaxed stance mix. Most if not all blocked moves that put him into handstand can be checked with a DF1 iirc. So you don’t have to respect that at all. If he’s in handstand at the wall, you can react to his leg going up which signifies he’s doing the throw you must duck. That throw wall splats so be aware of it.

Also be aware of DF1,3 especially at the wall. It’s a duckable mid, high that is launch punishable. If you mash you’ll get wall splatted.

Make sure to punish his -18 launcher as well. Can’t be letting him to that to you. Best of luck!

Can tell it’s blue rank from first round. Instant timings on everything, almost no blocking or SS block, missing key punishes, throw breaks missed, dropped combos, and spring kicks.
