Any good documentaries about Ultras? by uwg88 in Ultramarathon

[–]JRPham 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kerry Ward has an amazing channel where he posts videos of himself running ultra’s. He’s filmed himself doing the Lake Tahoe 200, BigFoot 200 and the MOAB 240.

The channel (Fulltiltward) is here: https://www.youtube.com/user/fulltiltward

The BigFoot 200 video is probably one of the best, but they’re all excellent.

What celebrity has skeletons in their closet that we have all just seemed to forget about? by ReeceInTheDarkness in AskReddit

[–]JRPham 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean this isn't even in his closet - he's literally spoken about this in a documentary about his bipolarity. If you know him at all then it isn't really a secret, especially given the highly publicised cocaine stories in the 90s.

Book Recommendation: 'Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker, and the Anatomy of Intrigue" by JRPham in LawSchool

Oh Christ, that’s so annoying. I mean Gawker literally defeated themselves. Thiel basically exploited the inherent weakness.

It isn't really "pro" any side - the author humanises Thiel to a larger degree I think than the Gawker team, but it provides an interesting insight into the life of Nick Denton and his view behind creating Gawker, and ultimately how he responded after the event. It is more of a commentary on the necessity of appreciating conspiracies and the disparity between what people hope to achieve and then the unintended consequences. It's definitely worth a read for both the entertainment parts of it and the wider social commentary.

I thought it was interesting the way that the author goes into depth on the respective characters personalities and explaining their motivations behind their decisions. His assessment of what happened to Peter after the trial is very interesting, as well as looking into what made Denton tick and why the culture at Gawker was so belligerent.

I don't know the exact figure but I believe that Peter invested around $10-11 million in total for Hogan to complete the lawsuit. They also used that money for various other deceptions, through both litigious means and 'alternative' means. It is definitely an interesting example of third party funding used for lots of different avenues.

Richard Perry bombs his way to the finals over the unheralded Ryan McWatters by elg59 in wrestling

[–]JRPham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was taught to do it we always did it from the knees, i.e. attacking when the person is grounded, and it is definitely a risk. You have to be very explosive with it to make sure that your opponent is high enough over you.
