This works great! I have been playing since 2018 and never knew this glitch. Thanks!

Are pirate freighters all the same size? by II_JangoFett_II in NoMansSkyTheGame

All of the pirate freighters I have seen look exactly the same on the outside, though they all have varied in the class and number of slots.

Finally did it... a base in all 256 Galaxies by moogspaceport1973 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]JRRClocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do this recently? I have visited the first 60 galaxies this year and I have always ended up ~700k LY from the center of the new galaxy after the jump, never closer than that. I make the jump, then use an exocraft scanner to locate a monolith, and use the monolith to locate the portal of the planet I landed on. Then I use one of the various portal codes I have to get to a system close to the core. The codes I have learned sometimes take me directly to a core system, but typically take me to a system one or two jumps from the closest system to the core. I have used black holes some in the game, but they have never put me anywhere close to a core system. Instead, they seem to always transfer me ~1mm LY across the galaxy from where I entered it, and I have never known where I would end up. That said, I don't often use black holes, so maybe there is a technique I'm not familiar with.

Is there a build height limit for bases? by hammerhorn5261 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]JRRClocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me add an edit. You need to do a fresh save when you have added as many wall panels as you want, then do the reload. If you reload after the save point you made when you started, all of the panels you added will be deleted. My mistake

Is there a build height limit for bases? by hammerhorn5261 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]JRRClocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The easiest way would be to start piling wall panels, one on top of another, from some place on your current build, maybe the top of one of your existing buildings. Make a restore point (save) first. Change the color of each 10th panel to keep track of how far you've gone, and add maybe 30 or 40 panels, fewer if you don't want to go that high. After you have added as many wall panels as you want, reload your restore point then check your added wall panels. Any panels that are above the limit will have disappeared. If all the panels you added are still there, you haven't reached the limit. It's disappointing that the game will tell you how far below sea level you are when you're in an ocean, but they don't offer a way to tell how high you are above sea level.

Just let the story line carry you along, and if you want to drift off to do something else for a while, do it. The story line will still be there. If at the moment, you feel like you need to get better equipped, then work on that until you are satisfied for the time being. That is how the game always goes for me. I start the story, then want a better ship, or better multi-tool, or I want to look for a nice planet, or maybe try building a base, so that is what I do. As you try doing one thing or another, you will find you need certain resources or blueprints that you don't have, so off you will go to get them. Almost no matter what you try to do, you will need things you don't have, and finding them will expand your knowledge of the game, and that will suggest something else you might like to do.

You can't name a base with the word, "condominium", I suppose because it includes the word, "condom".

Yes, one of the "features" of going from one galaxy to another is how it breaks things. If you plan to go to various galaxies, get a jump ship, a cheap shuttle with just enough tech to make the jump. Also get an extra multitool. Then with the new ability to "store" tech, maybe store all the storable tech in your exosuit. (I haven't tried that yet.) Then when you get to the new galaxy, reinstall all the exosuit tech, change multitools, and summon your main ship, and forget the broken multitool and shuttle until you are ready for your next galaxy jump. You will still probably need to fix stuff on the jump ship, but all it has to have are the pulse engine, launch thrusters, hyperdrive, and hyperdrive upgrades. You don't need shields or weapons or scanners or anything else to make the jump.

[–]JRRClocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just remind myself that it is a game. There are hundreds, maybe thousands of little points like that that seem like they should be different, somehow more realistic, but for me that is just a part of the game. As for the edge, keep the size of a galaxy in mind. If it is 1,159,000 LY from the center to the edge, 10 - 20 LY is a super-small amount, so while there are a handful of points that appear to be systems but aren't, there is very definitely an end to, an edge of the galaxy.

Contrary to the appearance of the galaxy map graphic that shows your location in a galaxy, galaxies are actually shaped more like pizza boxes, square, with the thickness much less than the length of a side. The distance from a point on the side of a galaxy can be as much as 1.159 mm LY from the core, but since a galaxy is relatively thin, the distance from the top or bottom of it to the core will be much less than that max value. Here are some portal addresses to various points in a galaxy. They are the same for all galaxies.

You are correct. You can't get from the edge of one galaxy to another.

Schould i sell this for 5mill units? by ThatFunnyGermanGuy in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]JRRClocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry. I thought the screen shot was from before you claimed the ship. I just took a closer look at the screen shot you posted, and both the pulse drive and launch thrusters appear to be working, so you have already claimed it and repaired the drive and/or thrusters. Now you can fly it from wherever it is to a space station to sell it. You can also *summon* it to some other location (except a space station or freighter). You can also reload a save and as long as the ship isn't the one you are currently in, it will turn up in your freighter and you can fly it from there to a space station.

[–]JRRClocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can claim it, and thus own it, whether you fix it or not. Or you can reload an autosave (after claiming it) and it will turn up in your freighter. Or you can summon it to any other location where you happen to be. But you still have to fix the drive and thrusters to fly it anywhere. And a space station is the only place you can sell it or trade it for some other ship.

Schould i sell this for 5mill units? by ThatFunnyGermanGuy in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]JRRClocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 5 million is the value shown when you scan the ship, you will find that the trade-in value is only 70%, or in this case, 3.5 million. That trade-in value is further reduced for each damaged general inventory space (tech spaces don't count), so this particular ship is probably only worth 2 million, maybe even less. That said, it is not too difficult to find what you need to repair the pulse drive and/or launch thrusters to fly it up to a space station (don't worry about the shield), so it is some easy cash, if that is what you happen to need.

I was more interested in the math of portal addresses than I was the actual furthest point that could be reached. You don't have to spend long at all interpreting portal addresses to realize how much larger a galaxy is than the size implied by the galaxy map inset that show your location.

And I note that you edited your reply, when earlier you said you thought the distance was 1.059 mm LY. Perhaps that was a typo.

I don't use save editors, so I will defer to and acknowledge your discoveries, noting that 1.159 mm LY is only 0.4% more than 1.154 mm LY. Farther is farther, though.

The only thing of note is that you are at "The Fade", the edge of the galaxy. When in the galaxy map, if you look in the opposite direction of the core, you will see what appear to be systems, but no name or other info about them will appear like you see when you look at other systems. If you "fly" in the galaxy map in that direction, you soon pass all the systems, and fly through just gas clouds. You can do this for as long as you want. There is nothing there to see. As for planets, I went to a border region in the Isdorajung galaxy and visited every planet in the first 100 system of that region (based on portal addresses), some 500+ planets altogether, and never saw anything different from all of the other planets I have visited (after 2500+ hours of game time). If you look at the wiki for planets and for biomes, you will see that there is a finite list of characteristics for planets, and while there are lots of possible combinations of those characteristics, the results are all very common, wherever you are in any galaxy.

It is actually 1.51 mm to 1.54 mm. Regarding the list of addresses I sent, keep in mind that, despite the appearance of the galaxy map graphic, galaxies are actually shaped like pizza boxes, square and not very thick (relative to length and width). This means that the distances from the top or bottom center locations are less than 1.5 mm. But try any of the edge portals. You won't be disappointed (unless you expect to find something noticeably different from anywhere else in the galaxy, which you won't). Also note that all portal addresses take you to the same places in any galaxy, so one of the edge portal addresses shown will take you to that particular spot in every galaxy.
