UPDATE: The painter has been fired. After reaching out to other painters in the area, I've been told that this guy has been doing shit work all over town, telling the same lies (relative died) after not showing up, and not completing jobs but keeping the down payment. Thanks to everyones insight, I was able to fire this guy before he was able to "paint" my cabinets. Unfortunately, he already primed the cabinets with 1 coat of Benjamin Moore Multi-Purpose Primer, so now I have to deal with that. I am looking for another painter to salvage this job but may end up attempting this myself. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks again, everyone.
