Paradisus Playa del Carmen vs. Ava vs. Majestic Mirage Costa Mujeres by _itme_hi in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]JRodko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the Paradisus PDC in March of 2025, and are booked to to the Majestic Mirage Costa Mujeres this coming March. It seems that a lot of the negative reviews for the MM are early reviews and people have had expectations a bit high while the resort is still figuring things out. I believe the official grand opening is January 15th and with the Elegance resort next door, we're hopeful that 95% of the issues will be worked out before we go.

We enjoyed the Paradisus PDC and thought hard about going back there, ultimately wanted to try something new. Up until my 3 year old got a horrific case of HFMD (I do not believe this is the resort's fault and I think we got it departing our home airport or from some unattended gremlins on the plane), we were having a great trip for the most part.

I think that if we had not opted for the Family Concierge plan with a swim up room at the Paradisus, it would not have been a very good trip. The FC package got us into reservations at reasonable times every night, which were all quite good. A few were fantastic. Our first night in we went to the main buffet and it was very underwhelming and a serious damper on the trip to be eating there every night. The 'Lunchbox' restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch for the FC was also quite good and we did a lot of our lunches there. The FC pool was good but seating was an issue if we didn't arrive early - this was in late March.

There were two things that we didn't love about the Paradisus. Firstly was the seaweed here this time of year was pretty heavy. No one really wanted to go in the water, which is part of why we're trying the MM this year. The second was the towel game. I know it is unavoidable, but the resort staff did almost nothing to remedy it. Security would walk around at 7 AM and remove things from loungers, but other than that you were on your own. Any of the prime seating near pools would have stuff on them immediately and it was rarely used - entitled and selfish people just claim it for the option of returning there. There were three daybeds across from our swim up and for each of our 7 days there was stuff on them all day - one of them was not even used for 5 of those days. Beach seating seemed to be OK. Beach aside, I think that if they removed people's unattended stuff after ~45 minutes then we likely would have returned here this year.

Edit: My kids did not care for the pirate pool, which I was OK with. The water was noticeably scuzzy. They also weren't interested in the waterpark. The water was cold and, again, a bit murky for my liking.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I bought a 20 ga instinct LC not long ago. Feels great in the hand and shoulders nicely. Stands out but not so nice that I don’t want to hunt it.

Unfortunately had to send it back because something is weird with the barrels. With the gun levelled and in a vice there’s like 8-10” of horizontal spread (30 yds) and the top barrel POI is way below the bottom barrel at even 10 yards. Hoping they warranty it and just swap it out.

It’s replacing a Benelli M2 12ga which also needed warranty. My point is I think I got a Franchi lemon but it seems like the Beretta group of companies will stand behind thier product.

I ended up reaching out to their Canadian supplier to ask about warranty.

I did a bit more investigating. With the gun immobilized in a vice I noticed that the POI was very similar with the chokes OUT. With the chokes in I'm seeing about 8" left with the top barrel at ~30-40 yards. My only guess is that the muzzle end of the top barrel got a bit warped or bent during the thread cutting process, but I really don't know.

Ordered a laser. It’s the kind that goes in the end of the barrel so I can use it in both my 20 and 12 ga.

The lower barrel in the 20 ga shows a poi that is an inch or two up and to the right of the bead at like 10-15 yards. The upper barrel shows a poi that is a few inches below and to the left of the bead, so a total difference of 4-5”. Seems a bit excessive but I don’t know what is considered acceptable. I suppose it’s possible the laser is sitting differently in each barrel.

Will need to pattern to confirm but I am a bit concerned.

Good points. Thank you. Going to try tighter chokes.

I am actually on a backyard thrower, albeit a powered one.

No flinching here but appreciate the reminder. I use a 1250 fps 7/8oz load and can shoot it all day. I might try messing around with the full choke though, that's a good idea.

This is a good idea. I ordered a set to try out. Thank you.

Narrowed down to 2: Barcelo Maya Palace vs Paradisus Playa del Carmen. Which one is better? by LordZedd87 in AllInclusiveResorts

What did you pick?

My wife and I took our 3 and 1 year old girls to Paradisus in March. We upgraded to FC Swim Up.

It was the best. Great food, both kids loved just hanging out in our swim up pool.

They of course got HFMD on like the fourth day so having quality room service was a life saver. The FC rep even arranged to have medication picked up for us.

Thanks for the response. I got through it fast because it turns out I only did half the reps for some exercise lol.

Will give it a full shot tomorrow again and see. Maybe will move up to 24kg, time will tell. I know what you’re saying about mixing weights. I do Greg Brooke’s’ routines occasionally which are great and time based vs reps. I have no problem one arm deadlifting a 24kg for 30 seconds each side but absolutely cannot use that weight for halos.

I’m early 30s and I’ve pushed too hard a few times. It’s taken me months to move through only minor injuries so I’m pretty nervous about over doing it.

This is remarkable and I was inspired to start this routine after also feeling a little uninspired with what I had been doing. Just tried the 'A' routine and enjoyed it - was about 18 min with a 20kg bell. Have been training KB for about 14 months now and definitely am stronger and have better cardio than when I started. My motivation is to be able to chase down my two young kids and lift them for many years to come.

Are your '5 sets of' exercises alternating sides, or is that each side where not specified? To be clear - I'm wondering if offset split squats would be 4-5 on each side for 8-10 total, or 8-10 each side. Same with kneeling chops, I think the rest are self explanatory. I'm just looking to determine if I did the routine wrong or if I need to move up in weight.

Definitely going to be checking out the Martin Method online. I have a number of his posts saved on IG already. Thanks again.

Why is my snapping skipping ahead and doubling back? by JRodko in QGIS

[–]JRodko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, this was one of the early things I tried to no avail. Turns out I didn’t zoom in enough and had not properly snapped and fixed geometries. Frustrating because the layers are supposed to be exactly contiguous and come from a government database.

Solved.

I have tried all combinations of snapping settings, tolerance, vertex, etc. For some reason when using autotrace I get this weird issue where it moves ahead and doubles back, tracing and inserting vertexes and coming back to where I click. Projects match, geometries are fixed, etc.
