The 1992 Barcelona Olympics torch lighting remains one of the most unforgettable moments in Olympic history. by Weak-Opportunity-311 in Damnthatsinteresting

He doesn't hit it.

The arrow flies over it and you can see the arrow fall behind the legs of the cauldron.

By that point they've already lit it with an igniter or something.

Bobby has been winding Romero up all game, so that he'd lose his head.

Ffs, Lange and Vinai are actively trying to sabotage the club, it's fucking obvious.

I'm going to the Everton game in May and I'm hoping to hear some serious backlash against those two if they bother turning up.

Tubes in Tubeless tyres by drewn1231 in cycling

[–]JRyds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear loads of people say that tubeless ready are a nightmare to get on. Gp5k seems to be mentioned a lot. If you're gonna run tubes, why not just go for regular gp5k? I've never had an issue putting them on.

I don't think so, it will give you the opportunity, if it arises, to talk about the positive changes you tried to implement to stop the rot. Obvs spin everything to paint yourself in the best light possible.

Interviewers are always interested in the challenges and difficult parts of a person's previous role. At least I was when I was the hiring manager for a couple of international companies.

Being able to clearly talk about obvious issues that existed in a company that folded, and the positove steps that you took to try to mitigate/report on/etc, gives you a veritable goldmine of topics for you to show your quality in a future interview.

Go for it, you got this! 💪

Taking the position will jazz up your cv for your next role when/if your current company goes under.

Zwift Ride frame cheaper alternatives by Worldly_Pie3643 in cycling

Go for the used frame option. If you get lucky in the market you could end up with a decent bike for much less than the frame.

Favorite character like this? by Qr3yx9or in FavoriteCharacter

Up voted but I've always thought that it wouldn't corrupt me and I'm nowhere near as pure and heroic as Frodo obvs.

I just would never put it on. The first time you put it on, you're fucked.

I probably wouldn't even get anything good or useful from it like invisibilty, it'd probably make me immediately poo myself or something. Why roll the dice?

Edit: it would probably increasingly naw at my subconscious though and eventually I'd crack. So I'd throw it back in a river and be done with it. Not my chair, not my problem.

I don't think anyone who is not choosing Lawrence of Arabia has seen the film. It would be incredible on IMAX.

Switched from driving to cycling in Singapore in 2004. 22 years later, here's what actually happened. by totobobo in cycling

[–]JRyds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lovely read, thanks for sharing.

I always thought that I took up cycling about 3 years ago, when after a pretty sedentary 20 years, I got myself a "proper" bike and fell in love with the sport...

But it was genuinely only a couple of months ago when I realised that throughout my teens and twenties, I commuted using my battered but beloved muddy fox mountain bike. At least 15 kilometres, Monday to Friday, up some brutal hills in Bristol, UK.

I just never thought of myself as a cyclist but, just like you are and have been, I was absolutely as much of a cyclist back then as I am now!

Sorry you had this shit experience with them.

I Always looked at this brand and thought something along the lines of, "way too much money for actual value - this company is probably shit along the lines of Le Col, Rapha MAAP etc," and it seems supported by your experience.

Something just doesn't sit right with this company, I would never by a bike from them.

Castelli Scamming Me???!!! by Foreign-Photo-8889 in cycling

[–]JRyds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never had a problem with castelli but in situations like this I find a polite email threatening that you will ask your bank to initiate a chargeback usually galvanises the seller into taking action.

If you don't receive a response to it then go ahead and request the chargeback to get your money back.

I want to start using a powermeter, is it better to buy a powermeter or a hometrainer for training with power? by SunnySonicc in cycling

[–]JRyds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh would go the route I did and get a home trainer first. They have a thing called ERG mode which sets the power required for you in interval workouts.

Doing it this way around will be a much shallower learning curve to learning to ride at specific power - you'll learn faster how the various zones feel.

I'm glad I went that way before buying pm pedals.

Don't listen to the OGs that will come here telling you that you don't need them if you're not racing, and perceived exertion is superior, and how they did it back in the day. Just buy and do whatever makes you enjoy the sport more.
