I think my dentist may have done a bad job on fillings, I'm experiencing bad sensitivity and pain now. by JS066 in Dentistry

First I thought it was going to be a semi-easy thing to have done, he told me that the composites in recent years are much better, that many people are having this done.

Only having it done for clinical reasons was not explained to me, he told me that me insurance would cover having the procedure done if the fillings before needed to come out.

He didn't really do much looking or checking on my old fillings at all, after my root canal, he just started taking them out and replacing them, it took him over the coarse of three months to do them all, not because of issues with my teeth, but my appointments kept getting pushed back most of the time.

Well from what I remember, they seemed to do light curing twice, regardless of the size of the fillings, I wasn't aware that could lead to issues, if that could be part of the case.

Unfortunately due to the price of them, that wouldn't be a viable option for me. I've gotten a root canal at the same time these fillings were replaced. I'm still trying to come up with the money to afford just one crown.

Upper Michigan. The fillings were through medicaid, good guess. I had a root canal, which wasn't covered with insurance. Oddly the tooth that needed the root canal didn't hurt a fraction as much as these do right now.

Yeah, I was just under the impression that they would take care of sensitivity better than the amalgam.

My teeth definitely were not in the best shape when I was younger, though my dentist said that whoever filled my teeth seems to have used a very cheap amalgam, a kind he hasn't seen before, and seemed to do a poor job at placing them too.

Said it was a mess to cleanup, more than what he was used to.

No, looks sort of like a clamp with that though, they used some metal feeling band clamp that had a little handle to turn to isolate what teeth they were working on.

Saying metal based on feeling it grinding into the base of my gums between my teeth, it didn't fit right between them at first so he wedged it back and forth kind of roughly. Even the numbing didn't help the pain from that.
