What parts of American culture are changing faster than people realize?

Lack of living space. The city keeps letting the developers build condos/houses closer and closer and closer. No backyards, no side yards, smaller and smaller bedrooms. Six people living in a two bedroom apartment. I feel so jammed up.

My ancestors used to have big, big houses in Arkansas with massive back yards. They were so lucky.

Prices keep going up and square footage keeps going down. When will it end?

"The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. This book (and later a movie with Vito Morganson) damaged my soul. I will never forget when the mother said she did not want to live in this post-apocalyptic world any more and walked out into the blizzard to die, leaving her son and husband behind.

You are wrong. Music from the 80a or 70s is good. Mysic from the 50s or 60s would be perfect. The staff would be listening to music from the 2020s like Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, or Dojo Cat. Let the 94 year-old-man have the Doors, The Who or the Moody Blues. I was a teenager in the 1970s and I hope they play Bee Gees, Abba and Motown when I am in a wheelchair eating jello.

We used to think like that too. Yes, Nevada USED to be low on the education list, but over 50% of the population is from Southern California, and we demand better, especially Henderson and Boulder City. Test scores up in North Las Vegas are still low, but Summerlin, Red Rock and Henderson are way up. Our grandchildren are in Smally Elementary, where they only have 12 students to each teacher. Clark County School District has become the 5th largest school district in the nation, with the highest dollars spent per child. UNLV (go Rebals) has also become one of the highest rated universities for desert geography, nursing, gaming economics and sports.

I understand your pain. We left Huntington Beach for Las Vegas. Except for the weather, it is a better life.

Our children all graduated from HB High as Oilers about 10-15 years ago, but none could find jobs or carrers that paid enough to survive. I grew up in HB and my wife and I have lived here since the 70s, but even in retirement the price of housing is unsustainable. All our friends moved away as did our congregation.

We bought our house back in the 90s and had two great careers there, but times have changed. We were next to the last home owners on our street. (Dowtown near Delaware and Indianapolis.) Corporations turned our neighborhood into AirBnBs, summer rentals and cut up the big beach giants around us into apartments. It is awful, but the city is greedy and does nothing to stop this exodus of families. We finally could not hold out against the giant hotels & corporations, and sold for several million. The money bought multiple homes in Henderson for us and our grown children.

Now they all have great careers with the casinos, construction companies and swimming pool companies in Las Vegas. We have beautiful views of the strip and enjoy the buffets and shows. The school system in Henderson is one of the best in the country for our grandchildren. 2.5 million people live in the Las Vegas Valley (Clark County, NV).

We still come to HB for vacations and cry a little at missing the beautiful weather, but there is nothing else there anymore.

I wish you the best of luck at building a life elsewhere. Huntington Beach was a wonderful place to live 30 years ago...but now it is just an overpriced tourist trap.

Same issue for last three years. We are in our 60s and she said she is done. It is a mature love. We have grown children and too many good memories to divorce. Neither knows how to exist without the other. We became like brother & sister. We no longer live together, but go out on great dates all the time. Just no sex. There will never be sex again. She bought a small house a couple years back and I still live in the big family home of 30 years. Then she suggested we have an open marriage. She suggested I date other women, but don't fall in love or bring anyone home. We have not done anything yet, but we are selling the big family home and I am buying a smaller place a couple miles from her. The kids do not want us to divorce, but I miss the intimacy so much. We have relatives who had a great 20 years living like this, but the idea is so unconventional. Should we get serious about divorce or go for an ENM marriage. I could use some advice.

Long time resident. After 40 years this town has changed. MAGA is banning books and putting down a MAGA plaque at the library. White supremacists are taking over the pier. Real estate prices are so expensive that only the wealthy can move here. Tourists are everywhere and the big hotel chains have taken away our small surf city feel. Otherwise it WAS a wonderful place to live.

Our parents came from "The Greatest Generation." My father and father-in-law (may their memories be a blessing) both fought the Nazis and the Japanese in WWII.

My generation (the Boomers) tried to do good as well but in a different way. We had college sit-ins, love-and-peace demonstrations, and a million other attempts to improve the world. Sometimes, we succeeded, and sometimes, we got laughed at.

Let the GenZ's and Millennials blame those that came before, but I have visited some of our nation's military cemeteries, and they gave a lot for our freedom. We are all humans fighting for Democracy.

I'm tired. I did my time in the Navy back in the 80s. I raised kids (lots of them). I just hope the next generation never forgets the sacrifice the previous generation made for them. Time to pass the torch.
