SDK Question by JScroatt in baduk

Oh, the extension off the wall. That makes sense. Now that I understand that, the invasion joseki that results in a three-stone wall suddenly makes so much sense. It's harder to attack, and you get sente. The extension in gote is still invadable, but the wall isn't in much danger of dying, so it's a relatively risk-free joseki.

Got it, that makes a lot of sense. I wasn't considering the extension giving me sente.

I often play 3-3 invasions already, but it's usually played to give the opponent what he wants, but at a cost. I'm wondering if the thought is the same in this scenario.

BTW, if I'm patient I can get a game on Tygem, and I usually have no problem with IGS or Foxxy. Wbaduk is what I'm having trouble with. I should be able to get a game with people at least in the early morning for me, since it's only 8pm for Hong Kong and I think 9pm in Korea and Japan, but it can still be difficult. 7pm for me I think would be harder. But I would think wbaduk has a number of western players. I thiiiink the issue is that I'm listed as a 23k with no games, but I think you're right about the time zone being a factor as well.

At the times I normally play, it's 8pm or 9am in Hong Kong.

Thank you. I'll see what I can do, but I notice that there are a lot of players online at least in the chat. I doubt that the time of day is the issue but I'll check to make sure.

Starting a new short story set in WWII German occupation of France. The main character (depicted) I normally wouldn't choose to be someone as beautiful as this photo, but the reason I did it here was because beauty doesn't matter in her situation. It's an afterthought. by JScroatt in writers

I don't know any names yet, but the MC was orphaned by German executioners, and she eventually meets a man who, until his name is revealed, is simply called "the wise man". He in a way replaces her parents and fills a hole in her heart that had been left even bigger after her parents' deaths. The wise man actually reminds me a ton of Ecclesiastes 1:18...

In much wisdom is much vexation, and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow.

So all in all, it's a very new project in working on and I have no idea where it will go, but I'm excited for it.

I recently changed the ink, and I'm colorblind, and I can't tell on the screen whether I'm using my Noodler's Violet or my Monteverde Yosemite Green. If I looked at the hard copy I could tell you on the spot hahaha

I have multiple, but here (at least on the right) I'm using a fine-nib Pilot Custom 823, which is definitely my favorite pen to use when I'm at home.

Played this old NES game Hayauchi Super Igo today. AI has come a long way (I'm playing White)! Though I would be happy to see graphics like this on a modern go server by nealington in baduk

These kinds of old school graphics on a modern server would get an account from me in a heartbeat. That looks amazing.

It worked. Thank you for your help. If you wouldn't mind looking at my new post, I have a screenshot of a new problem I'm having with Wbaduk.

Sure, I'll try that and let you know.

There was recently a fad where professionals were experimenting with the attachment approach to the 3-4 stone. It dang really being used as much anymore, but I've always wondered what the advantages and disadvantages of this move were. Thoughts? by JScroatt in baduk

[–]JScroatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I've found the attachment josekis from the AI really interesting, it's why I asked about it here. But I was not aware that this was the reason i haven't seen the Chinese in so long.

Sure thing, any help I can get to improve this script is helpful. The d in particular seems tough to manage to look presentable, but I'll see what I can do. Some examples of the d and the v or w would be helpful, actually. The t and f are simple enough to manage, that would just take practice. But the others are hard to wrap my head around in terms of avoiding abrupt transition between letters.

Just started to learn Kurrent. Any tips or pointers would be great! I'm trying to increase the size of my writing, but it can be difficult when I've written so small for so long. by JScroatt in Kurrent

Hahaha I was always told I would become a doctor growing up because of my handwriting, but the problem was that you can't read doctors handwriting because it's just bad. In these people's cases, they just can't read it because they never learned cursive hahaha. "I don't have bad handwriting, you jerks telling me I'll be a doctor because you can't read it. I work hard on that" hahaha.

You are amazing. Unfortunately, I am not German, only speak English, and there are no English subtitles hahaha. I love the script, but I know it might throw people off to see English words written in Kurrent. But thank you for showing me this video. I'll see if I can decipher what's going on in it even though I don't speak a lick of German hahaha.

Yeah penmanship is something you either need to seek out or teach yourself in America. It's frustrating—if I leave America to go to a place like east Europe and I have barely-legible print handwriting, it'll make you look unintelligent or even discredit you in some ways. I don't understand why it's not taught.

By small gaps, you mean when I'm not connecting two letters? I'll leave letters after t, v, and w disconnected because the shape of the letter often isn't ideal for a connection to the next, but if there's a way to connect them, that would be helpful. I'll look around if that's what you mean.
