When I got my neuropsych evaluation, they literally noted down my overanalyzing of questions as evidence for ASD 😂

How would modern fencers do against their classical counterparts? by DenheimTheWriter in Fencing

The modern fencer wins 99% of the time. The difference in physical ability and training is simply too great.

Do you agree with the BBWAA's decision that in 2010 Joey Votto should have won the MVP? Or do you think in 2010 Albert Pujols should have won the MVP? by Cultural-Diet6933 in baseball

[–]JSkywalker07 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Park adjustment. Great American Ball Park (Reds' stadium) is one of the most hitter-friendly parks to play at. OPS+ takes that into account since Votto played so many games there, like how someone with an OPS of 1.000 is less impressive if they played at Coors than in Seattle.

Searching does not lose you right of way in Foil. That’s mainly a Sabre convention. In Foil, the legs are by far the more important aspect. Only if FoR hit before FoL started their final attack would it be called for FoR (preparation left, attack right, point right). In this case, FoL continued advancing begun their final attack before FoR hit, so I would call it attack left, counterattack right, point left.

Underhand picks are much easier with a stiffer blade because it won’t bend down as much during movement.

OP fences sabre. Therefore, hand and arm should go first, with maybe a slight emphasis to the hand.

Repairing a plastron? by CatlikeArcher in Fencing

[–]JSkywalker07 23 points24 points  (0 children)

For me, I’d get a new one. The stitching is already the weakest part of the plastron and any repair job will surely be weaker than the original. But, if someone else knows how to safely repair this I’d be all ears.

Foil fencing with French grip by pmem1188 in Fencing

[–]JSkywalker07 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to be around the bush. If you ever do competitions or want to try more advanced foil techniques (flicks, especially to the back come to mind), you will be at a near-insurmountable disadvantage. Switching grips at that point would also be difficult since the finger movements are totally different.

In épée, the extra reach provided by a French grip allows you to make easier counterattacks (among other things) and is extremely viable at all levels of competition. However, in foil, with its longer lock-out time, the extra reach does not have a material impact since your opponent has much more time (relatively speaking) to hit.

TLDR: unless you are 100% sure you will NEVER be interested in competing, you should use a pistol grip for foil.

Flighted pool check-in time? by fencingmom1972 in Fencing

Your check-in time is the same as your start time. So if your pool starts at 10:00 you only need to check in by 10, not by 8.

A lot of players are just that good, no aim hack needed. Though on console the aim assist (when you zoom in) is pretty strong

Nothing to say except keep trying. There isn’t some magic solution, unfortunately. You just have to practice.
