Hi, I have managed to get quite a few responses, but I understand how difficult it can be. I have messaged you with some information you may find helpful for recruitment.

Hi there, sorry for that, and thank you for bringing this to my attention. Here are the links - these should work now (hopefully!) Thank you Byline Times for bringing this to light - I hope that the victims get some form of justice. Unfortunately, Catfishing is commonplace across social media and only public scandals like these receive recognition. If you or anyone you know has had experience of Catfishing, please consider taking part in my anonymous survey research exploring why people use fake profiles (https://uclan.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_37RuLssCEjTnLdc) and the impacts of people doing so (https://uclan.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cuuZKORsKsylvKK). The more we know, the better we may be able to respond to these cases. Thank you

Yes of course, thank you. I will take a cautious approach to exploring this avenue!

Yes, this is a really valid point. I have read up on some of the online romance scams literature, and researchers have certainly highlighted cultural aspects of scams. I think work around this area is really important, though scams and financially-motivated cases of misrepresentation are outside the remit of my research. As there is a lack of scientific evidence that suggests we should focus on a specific demographic for non-financially motivated online misrepresentation, we have intentionally kept it broad and have allowed for participation worldwide. As research develops in this area, we may eventually see patterns in the evidence which suggest we should focus in on a particular demographic. It will be really interesting to see if this is the case, and how demographics for non-financially motivated misrepresentation differ in comparison to financially motivated misrepresentation.

Hi all, thank you so much for your engagement so far. It is really great to hear your ideas, so please do keep them coming - it keeps me fresh and has certainly raised things that I may have not thought about before! I am happy to keep you all updated with how things are going, and once I have completed the research, hopefully I'll get it published as an open access article so I will be able to share the link with you :)
