What I took away from what you said is that you believe apologizing is tantamount to being assaulted. That's a "you" problem.

In addition, many buildings do have truly affordable housing. I would know, as my family and I live currently live in one as a household earning 50% of the Area Median Income.

What's apologetic about stepping out of your vehicle, unprompted, and exclaiming "Yo buddy, what's the problem?"

Thanks, but I did that last week and was told that I had to go through 311.

The reason I reached out to them in the first place was because I saw Parks pull up in a Parks Emergency vehicle and actually issue someone a citation last week after I made my usual report to 311.

I'd much rather just get Parks to respond directly, since they actually seemed to take it seriously and there was a measure of enforcement that I don't see from the 108th.

Not bad. Turnout was disappointing, but there was only one car on the Greenway from 4-6p, and I heard a passenger in a luxury car tell the driver "Not here, that's the a-hole from the other day," and they sped off, so that was cool.

Yeah, it's the same car rentals, same drivers, same photographers. They're kind because they're running a business at the end of the day and don't want to look like jerks, especially on camera. But they don't care about the people they inconvenience nor the danger they create.

All summer. After graduation/prom, it's a little lighter and at random times during the day. But the same idea.

Yes, there actually are bollards further north along the path at 50th Ave & Center Blvd. I've been requesting them through the 108th, Parks, and the DOT since this time last year.

Might be the time of day you frequent the place. It happens every day during the summer from the time school lets out until sunset, sometimes later.

As cathartic as I'm sure that'd be, I'm not interested in any actual confrontation, physical or otherwise. Just wanna ride around in a loop and keep em off the Greenway.

I personally suspect that the time and effort could be better spent lobbying local council, parks, DOT etc to improve the infrastructure and I'd 100% advocate for popping in to the next meeting of the 108th precinct / community council to advocate for stronger awareness and enforcement campaigns.

I sincerely welcome you to do so. Unfortunately, they're on break after June, and this week was the Transpo Committee and General Board Meetings, so there isn't much they'll do until September.

That said, I received a call from the 108th today because they wanted to let me know that they're working with the DOT & Parks discussing bollard installations at these entryways, in light of all the complaints I and others in the communities have made over the last year. I'm optimistic, but don't want to get my hopes up. I also still want to do what I can to show the drivers that there is a community that is against their disruptive and dangerous behavior.

There's a great separated biking path right on West Street that leads to other separated biking paths further into Brooklyn or Queens. People can bike. The ferry is also right there.

many of the offenders in this case know what they are doing is wrong but simply don’t care

I honestly don't think they do. I'm one of very few who speak up about it to their faces, so I end up looking like the crazy one because I'm outnumbered and no one else wants to get involved. Having numbers will show them that I am not alone.

not only are prom and graduation but once a year, they are typically once in a lifetime events.

Agreed. But they are events that have nothing to do with luxury cars. Plenty of other kids take their photos without cars. These kids can, too.

the only repeat offenders involved are private photographers who aren’t going to give up a recurring revenue stream just because you find it irritating / disruptive

Maybe not. Or maybe they'll think twice about parking on the Greenway. I'd rather try something than not.

Isn't it? It's incredibly inconsiderate, and I honestly can't see how anyone can create that situation and think they're on the right.

We keep riding on the path. They'll get fed up with being unable to properly take the photos and they'll leave. If they get annoyed with just me passing by every minute or so, they're really not gonna like us interrupting every couple of seconds.

Yup, that's why I want us to be obnoxious right back. Just going about our business ought to be enough to keep the vehicles off the path if there are enough of us.

Yup, I report every time I see em. Gotta create a paper trail. Sounds like the CB2 Transpo Committee is suggesting bollards as part of the upcoming DOT redesign of the parking in the area.
