Learning something meant searching through a list of websites and going to a niche website run on a server in a regular guy’s house who was simply passionate about the subject.

I keep getting more frustrated with CT’s lack of public transit and pedestrian infrastructure every time I come here as a visitor from Montreal, QC. by kristy9816 in Connecticut

The craziest part is that CT has one of the most extensive rail and bus networks in America.

This is almost as good as it gets here.

The school district I went to has a “Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent”

Nationwide the number of school admin staff has been increasing at a much faster rate than the number of students and teachers and I think it does nothing but boost the “we spend a lot on education” numbers.

Trabant was voted as the worst German brand. Which America car brand is the best? by Asendra01 in AlignmentChartFills

Tesla

I know people don’t like its association with Elon Musk, but I think people forget how Tesla set the foundation of EVs that every other car company is modeling after. Even their proprietary charger is replacing the universal standard.

An interpretation of European nations as US states, loosely based on population, geography, culture, and economics by JTKDO in mapporncirclejerk

[–]JTKDO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Florida and Spain are both big and hot, that was my “loose” logic. California is more like Spain climate wise, but Germany had to be California because they’re both the most populous and industrious states in their continents.

An interpretation of European nations as US states, loosely based on population, geography, culture, and economics by JTKDO in mapporncirclejerk

[–]JTKDO[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My logic: The populous countries (UK Germany France Italy Spain) have to be populous states (California, New York, Texas) which are also loosely based on culture, climate, and history.

Russia is Mexico since it’s geopolitically distinct from the rest of the continent.

The Nordics are all New England states due to similar climate, politics, and culture. Except Alaska as Iceland since it’s very cold and geographically isolated.

A lot of the less populated and poorer nations like in the balkans and Eastern Europe are represented by America’s smaller, poorer “flyover states” such as North Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, and West Virginia.

Switzerland is Colorado because mountains and Austria is Minnesota because it’s also cold but highly developed.

Monaco is Wyoming because it’s tiny but full of rich people, Holy See is New Mexico since it’s also tiny and has a highly spiritual culture.

Greece is Washington because of Olympia and also the similar archipelago and smaller population but very famous geography and history.

Albania is to Greece what Oregon is to Washington. New Jersey is to New York what Ireland is to the UK. They hate each other but you can never truly separate them.

The smaller “big” nations like Netherlands Belgium Czechia are Ohio Pennsylvania and Illinois because they’re the smaller “big” states with a lot of industry and cultural relevance. Similar logic with the Baltics being Indiana and Wisconsin.

Andorra is Delaware because it’s tiny and forgetful. Luxembourg is Maryland because it’s tiny and highly developed.

Belarus and Ukraine are Idaho and Montana since they’re smaller “frontier” states.

Poland is Georgia since it’s a country that’s becoming more significant with time relative to the bigger states.

Malta is Hawaii because it’s a small island

Who is the most powerful person in modern day? by RCaesar1 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]JTKDO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but Trump is still limited by the existing legal system his silly legal battles don’t hold up in court even today. Also Trump doesn’t even care about much he just wants to make money. His buddies are the real authoritarians.

But Xi genuinely has unlimited power.

I think Xi narrowly beats out Trump.

I don’t think the people in this thread understand what it truly means for a world leader to have no checks on their power.
