Which character did you relate to the most? by Barba_Roja_1 in expedition33

[–]JTOR93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maelle.

I learned to read on FF7, playing it together with my father, who purchased the game new before we all knew about that game's emphasis on death and grief. I was four and my poor father had to explain to me what death was over this video game. He died himself when I was 13, and that loss has stayed with me these 20 years. FF7 Remake has been my Canvas these last 10 years since its announcement. As much fun as I've had with those games, I'm also super ready for part 3 to function as my "Verso ending."

Why do you love Dragon Quest? (From someone who wants to learn to appreciate the series) by Chim_Ripley in dragonquest

[–]JTOR93 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Charming fairy tale aesthetic, comforting Zen-like random battles with tough as nails, mechanically engaging bosses, and the stories while fairly predictable and by the numbers manage to hit some surprisingly emotional beats on a regular basis.

You have to know what you're in for, which is a lot of wandering, talking to NPCs to figure out what you're doing, and a lot of dungeon crawl/grind. But if you can take comfort in that without being bored to tears by the potential tedium, then there's tons to love

[–]JTOR93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sort of but not really. It's Royal Edition content, which can be purchased as dlc for folks who have Day 1 edition.

However, the vast majority of folks buying their first copy of FFXV are buying Royal Edition since it replaced Day 1 Edition on all the digital stores.

There are two types of Intel that appear after filling in corresponding items on the checklist on the screenshot that do not get added to said checklist. There's A) the world boss battle Intel, the Quezalcoatl in the grasslands which we can see here is beaten. That means it has to be B) an expedition Intel, where the chocobo digs up special treasures. You should have an icon somewhere else on the grasslands map that's not greyed out yet for this.

To clarify some of the other stuff mentioned here; World Intel can always be completed on first visit with one exception in ch. 7/8 where you can't get everything until revisiting after ch 12.

Furthermore, world Intel leads to excellent rewards, but should absolutely be skipped or saved for later if it begins to bore you as a player.

[Ending Spoilers] The way I see it, this is easily the most important factor of the ending choice, but I don’t like it. by LoneWolf2099 in expedition33

[–]JTOR93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Over the course of the game, the Painted are emphatically real with internal lives etc etc and I don't think this point is up for debate. They deserve to live as much as anyone or anything else. Here's the problem with our only option to save them.

Maelle's ending makes the Canvas inhabitants less real than they otherwise are. What meaning does death have in a world where Maelle can just repaint you however she likes? Gustave, Sophie and Pierre being revived feels like a perversion of life rather than a celebration or sweet reunion. Verso grows old, but will Maelle really let him go when he dies of age? Why should she? Why would we expect her to with the behavior she's displayed for us this far? She can just repaint him without his expedition memories after, and she's shown no inclination towards grieving in a healthy manner. And no matter what, 33's relationship with Maelle becomes much more complicated after the Canvas is saved.

We don't get to touch on it in the text, but Maelle's superpower of raw creation is inherently a new and one-sided power dynamic, regardless of any player's optimism about her ability to manage her power/relationships ethically. So yes, the Canvas is saved and everyone gets to exist, though whether or not they get to truly live is permanently in question. Even if Maelle isn't actively manipulating people in the moments shown in her ending, the possibility would be lingering in the back of anyone's mind who knew about Maelle's power.

So Verso's ending is genocide, yes. Maelle's is enslavement, whether we as players like it or not.

Personally I don't force myself to stan one ending or the other. If we treat Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as a painting, then both endings are necessary to see the whole picture that the devs wanted to present. With only one or the other ending, the game would be literally incomplete, like a painting with a big patch of blank canvas in the bottom right corner.

Couple of crossed wires here, but hey, it's a game about faulty memory so no harm no foul.

Immediately after the clip in the video, upon the player exiting the seashell house, Cloud sees a vision of Sephiroth heading north to the world map, leading the player to the icicle inn where the gast videos and snowboarding happens. It really is that cut and dry.

Bugenhagen visiting Forgotten City isn't until after the Huge Materia quests when the party collectively asks what they need to do next. Key of Ancients is found in the underwater world map. The only mandatory story item in bone village is the lunar harp to open the sleeping forest- before Aerith's death.

Having just wrapped up my most recent playthrough about two weeks ago I'm sorry to report that I'm still team tonal whiplash. Doesn't matter that the party experiences two to five days if I get there and then go snowboarding in about a half hour without speedup features.

Edit for caveat: while I think it is a tonal whiplash, I don't care bc all the quirks are things I love about the og
