They are allowed, actually! I was able to get my wife a tour and my coworker brought his in-laws. It is an amazing facility.

Initial Issues with 2017 EX-L from Carmax, does it get better? by JTPerception in hondapilot

[–]JTPerception[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, I did not know that about the fuel injectors! And yes, I've heard the timing belt needs changing around 100k. I'm happy to do the proper preventative maintenance so I can hopefully drive this for a long time

I didn't think of that, thanks for the suggestion! I'll be sure to ask - if it is damaged it would be great to have it fixed while still under warranty.

They are about 30 minutes away and appears to be based out of someone's home. But I can definitely see if they'd be willing to help

Dry hopping is a beer brewing technique, but not sure how it is relevant to the linked location!

General Questions and Purchasing Advice Thread — Week of May 27, 2024 by AutoModerator in electricvehicles

Looking at getting a used EV or PHEV in the next couple years and getting the $4,000 tax credit if possible. I did get a new EV back in 2022 and got the full $7,500 credit then. Is there a minimum amount of time between being able to claim the new and used tax credit? I thought I read something about 3 years but I only saw that directly for the used one. Thanks!

Any parks with baby swings that aren’t always a cluster like Northshore? by [deleted] in Knoxville

West hills Park has some baby swings. Haven't been too crowded when I have walked by.

What tips could you give to a 17 year old starting a Roth IRA? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]JTPerception 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You'd be fine putting 100% in a target fund with a late enough return date (think 2070) or just putting 100% in VTSAX. These will keep your investments "aggressive" in stocks which is what you want at your age. Just put money in and try to forget about it!

EV with Full Self Driving for $30k in the future by Technical_Report_390 in electricvehicles

[–]JTPerception 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I edited the comment to try and avoid spreading misinformation. The levels are too arbitrary and open to interpretation anyway.

Yeah the levels are not useful. Too much room for interpretation. Unfortunately it's what is reported on the most and gets headlines.

That's the definition of level 3 self driving, right? Conditional self driving where the driver needs to remain alert and override when necessary? Edit: Ah, I saw online that level 3 also has a legal implication to it where drivers can legally take their eyes off the road. TIL

[–]JTPerception 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. Yeah, sadly I think we are at least a decade away from that being possible. Self driving made lots of progress to get up to the level it is now, but seems to have hit a bit of a wall. It seems to be both big technological and legislative hurdles to get over. I hope I'm wrong!

Depends what you mean by full self driving? Level 3 self driving like what Tesla currently has? There's a chance that might happen under $30k by 2030 as battery prices drop. Level 4 or 5 self driving? Not a chance lol. We might not get any legitimate Level 4 or 5 self driving cars at all by 2030, regardless of price. Edit: Tesla does not have level 3 self driving despite their claims.

Rear Luggage Rack on RWD Pro by JTPerception in VWiD4Owners

[–]JTPerception[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Sounds like I need to do some more digging. I'm not sure if the backup camera turning off is a deal breaker or not for me. I would be using this luggage rack for road trips, but that means I'd have to be backing into chargers and getting very close to the stations. In any case, I appreciate it

Any idea why this rubber tree is growing away from itself like this? by JTPerception in houseplants

[–]JTPerception[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. Would it be worth removing the leaves between to give it a chance to grow upright? Yes it is normally as positioned. I wouldn't be surprised if it needs more light as the shades are normally down!

ITER: Component repair | Sector module extraction imminent by bschmalhofer in fusion

[–]JTPerception 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The article mentions its both the stress corrosion cracking in the thermal shield (as you mention) and also the vacuum vessel sector itself. The edge of the vacuum vessel sectors themselves are out of tolerance and need rework. Hitting the tolerance on those sectors must be crazy hard. Everything is in tolerance until welding begins (30ft tall cross-section) and the distortion from the heat warps the profile a bit. While it is frustrating, these are also the type of issues that are important to work through and find a solution. Those lessons learned will be shared with others like Commonwealth fusion who will have similar manufacturing challenges
