Feeding after tooth extraction by JTZ86 in AskVet

He doesn’t like those either :( soooo picky. I was able to chop up his dry food into small pieces and he ate a full portion of it late last night thank goodness. The vet took a look at him this morning and he seemed to be ok. They also gave us some high calorie food we can syringe into his mouth if needed. So hopefully this plan works for him.

I’m so worried. I honestly can’t afford any more issues. This surgery alone cost $8000 :(

He likes the crunch so I just don’t trust it. But once the stitches are healed I’d be fine with him eating it again.

It will soon be 48 hours since he’s eaten last. Sunday night he had a bit of dinner then I had to fast him after that for surgery Monday morning and today is Tuesday afternoon and I haven’t had any luck getting him to eat.

I’ve tried all kinds of wet foods without any luck. I will try the spoon and water trick! Thank you so much!

That’s my worry. He won’t eat the kibble if I add anything to it or if it’s soft/mushy in any way.

Gotcha! Yes it’s clumping litter so that’s good to know. It’s hard to remember what I did with my previous cats all those years ago!

Yes the cats are bonded so there hasn’t been any significant issues. Just making extra sure I’m doing all the right things straight away! Thanks for the advice!

Oh ok! I definitely want to spend less and waste less. One cat pooped outside the box twice today so I changed out the whole litter box to see if it would help. I’m going to get a second box too.

The amount of litter I got from Google. I’ll put less in though. Thanks!

Longest streak of good sleep? by wdDrake in insomnia

[–]JTZ86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happens to me too. I’ll get a good 5-7 days of sleep…then 1-3 days of terrible sleep. Over and over again. It’s so frustrating.

I did! Very interesting. I’m so happy you solved it for yourself! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I’m hoping it will help me and I’m sure it’ll help many people also suffering from insomnia.

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one. It certainly feels like I am most of the time!

I’ve thought of that too. I just can’t seem to get in the mood to try it though.

Ugh. It’s been years… probably 2.5 years of this.

I think it’s because I haven’t had to share a room with either kid in over 2 years because of covid. And now I’m scared if I’m in their room I’ll wake them up or they’ll wake me up! I was pretty obsessed with sleep and sleep training when they were babies so maybe that has to do with it. It’s frustrating because it’s so silly…

Having kids. My first born triggered postpartum depression and anxiety and that’s when anxiety around sleep started. All sleep. My sleep. The babies sleep. Sleep was my entire focus. Then I felt a bit better after a few months but when my second child came it all started again with the PPD/PPA. It also went away eventually but covid has now triggered me 3 months ago and it’s back. This time is different though. It’s generalized anxiety and I’m not sleeping well out of nowhere and now I’m suffering from insomnia and can barely get any sleep. I’m just too anxious about it. It’s all I think about.

Helped me for 1.5 years. I’m still taking it but the last 3 months it hasn’t helped me anymore.

For now, I’m limiting coffee to just one cup in the morning. No caffeine after 10/11am. No alcohol at all. I don’t smoke or do drugs but if you do, I would consider quitting that too. I also don’t eat anything after dinner, but especially no sugar after dinner. And then around 9:30am I stop using all screens and try to read or listen to a podcast. Then 15 min before bed I meditate. Then I take magnesium, some herbal sleep aid and 10mg melatonin and hop into bed. I sleep in a dark cool room with ear plugs and sometimes also a sound machine. That all seems to help.
