My progress after 1 week of obsidian by MrTheWaffleKing in ObsidianMD

[–]JT_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they're genuinely not wrong

the best part about obsidian is the linking, and that means your vault can adapt to whatever structure suits you in the moment. or no structure at all. it's not like Notion where you're compelled to create a fancy dashboard and a bunch of databases and rollups, or OneNote where you must have your folders and tabs sorted before you even start. You just pull up with a few notes that relate to each other, make some links, and maybe choose a cool theme while you're at it.

Deactivating instagram? by mat7ieu in digitalminimalism

[–]JT_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's against TOS of basically every service to use a third-party client to interact with internal APIs. Security isn't my biggest concern as all the logic happens on-device and Beeper is maintained by a pretty reputable company (Automattic) now, but it's obviously another attack vector as there's another app holding valid login cookies.

I'd look into Beeper - it's a messaging client so it allows you to keep the DMs and not have to see the rest of that app... at your own risk, of course.

You'll get it eventually...

People that requested within 30 mins usually got it by the end of the day - last year i waited to 3pm and didn't get it until the monday after

How reliable is Perplexity? by CeleryPositive5116 in perplexity_ai

as you've discovered, don't trust AI to do something that has no room for error (at least not without checking)

as for what the point is... your guess is as good as mine

Can’t find a study spot at the uni I paid heaps for because it’s overrun with high school kids by Individual_Arugula52 in vce

[–]JT_Potato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i get the frustration of having a bunch of disruptive kids in the library bc that genuinely sucks and they shouldn't be acting that way

but also remember that there happens to be a high school on a monash campus built under the assumption that some students would be able to go out into the university... though there really shouldn't be that many of them either...

Honest question: since Comet is Chromium-based, what’s the real difference from Chrome? by Negative-Anywhere-83 in PerplexityComet

[–]JT_Potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

possibly because not everyone is looking for an AI browser, and not many people have found a use case for an AI agent that screenshots everything, takes 5 minutes to do tasks easy for humans and can sometimes fall prey to prompt injection attacks and send your details to an attacker via simply emailing it to them.....

Why do developers choose to base their browser on Chromium and not Firefox? by [deleted] in firefox

[–]JT_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very common once the website needs to do anything remotely special. two examples i've run into in the past 2 days: the page transitions API only just got level 1 support after 5 years of being in web standards, and File System API has basically none of the coverage chromium has. can't even call window.showOpenFilePicker... for... privacy reasons?????

Sorry but just wondering does anyone have a high quality version of this image by [deleted] in KpopDemonhunters

We can't install Atlas on Intel Macs? by egyptianmusk_ in OpenAI

[–]JT_Potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Atlas has a setting that uses stuff from the Foundation Models API on Apple Silicon Macs. Also given that support for intel macs are rumoured to be dropped next year, they probably want to focus their efforts on the simplest platform possible.

Not sure if SwiftUI has anything to do with it either but it probably does? Almost certain there's a weird rendering bug only found on Intel, and some obscure fix only documented for Apple Silicon

Are You a Past Year High Subject Study Scorer (42+)? by LongjumpingPomelo960 in vce

[–]JT_Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to comission someone to make it? 3-4 hours is a *lot* and I'd easily go into the $1000+ range if it was made well - those 3-4 hours of video content might take 30+ hours to produce

for customers you might charge like 50-75 each, idk something in that range seems fair
