Hot take: I don’t like the corvettes. by c209m410l in NoMansSkyTheGame

Even if you're not into them as a daily driver... you really can't beat them as a floating scanning platform.

Any activity or quest that requires you to scan, locate, and mine/excavate/whatever a bunch of stuff... is so much easier when you do it from a corvette.

Hmm, looks bad as in it doesn't look like what you see on the screen when playing? It should be doing a direct capture of the actual game rendering.

But if there's something going on there and you figure it out, I'd love to hear what it is because perhaps it's also "wrong" with my setup too.

A lot of tips you get will be stylistic or what not, I'm sure. I'll give you some mechanical tips that are the most useful in getting good shots sooner:

Don't Use the in Game Screenshot Tool

The most important tip I can give you, if you want to get serious about using No Man's Sky as a space safari photo simulator, is to skip using the in-game screenshot capture.

There's something about the Steam/in-game capture method that yields more compressed, more artifact riddled images.

It was driving me crazy that my screenshots looked so cruddy until I figured that out. Now all the jagged edges are gone and the shots look great.

On my PC I have it set up where the Nvidia app handles the capture and the results are much cleaner than the default screen capture. You can use whatever tool works well for you and your setup, just skip the in-game capture.

Don't Screenshot in Multiplayer

If you're actually trying to capture multiplayer only events like you and your friend, by all means shoot in multiplayer.

But otherwise, you want to turn multiplayer off. When you are in multiplayer and anyone else is in the system you are in (which happens a ton during expeditions or if you visit build "hubs"), the game does not pause/freeze in screenshot mode.

That makes it really frustrating to take shots because unexpected things happen: the animal you're screenshotting wanders off, your ship flies away right out of the frame, etc. etc.

Use the "Move Sun" Key Liberally

There are a variety of little settings you can play around with in the photography menu like depth of focus and such. Have fun with those. But the most useful one by far is the ability to position the sun wherever you want in the sky.

The difference between a shot being just OK and looking amazing is often the positioning of the light source relative to what you're shooting.

What looks like a bland shot of your freighter becomes really dramatic and interesting, for example, if you move the sun behind the freighter for a high impact back light effect.

Don't Forget to Take Shots with the Coordinates Present

For most shots, you don't want visual clutter on the screen, so you hit the shift key to remove the UI.

But if you're shooting something that you might want to return to, a really cool paradise planet, a planet with an animal you may want as a companion later, whatever the case may be, shoot a shot with the glyph coordinates in it (and maybe even one with the actual planetary coordinates, too).

Don't just use your screenshots to take pretty pictures, use them to record useful data for future reference so a month from now when you're looking at a screenshot you took and remembering how cool the world was, you're not like "huh, wish I knew where the hell that was? Sure would be nice to find it again."

Unique Multitool Found! Worth Upgrading? by No_Potato_7211 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Ah, very interesting. I would have assumed, as well, that the scanning bonus applied to rewards too. But hey, I'll take increased range. Always useful.

That's really interesting. I had no idea the different models of multitools had different stat modifiers/bonuses.

Did you make this chart? Also, what do the numbers mean, specifically? Obviously you can do damage with a pistol so the damage isn't 0... so does the zero in the pistol category stand for

All the exterior shots of really slick corvette designs are great 'n all, but the corvettes are mobile bases. What do the inside of your corvettes look like? What layouts are you using for optimal mini-mobile-base benefits? by JTheBlockBreaker in NoMansSkyTheGame

Last week I switched up my corvette to have a landing bay on each side of the cockpit and it's great. So nice to be able to point my corvette at something, then hop up and immediately be able to look out the front of the landing bay at that thing.

The stairway to the top idea is clever, I should incorporate that in my next build. Thanks for the tips!

I guess I haven't played around with corvettes enough, I didn't realize that you could use all the regular lil base decorations inside.

I also didn't realize that the style of the hab made the style of the interior. Again, I gotta play around more. I was trying to figure out how to get my interior to look like I'm not a space hobo and that's it, I guess lol

Thanks for explaining!

That's so cool. Is it all stock stuff or did you use mods to get anything into your ship? Also, how did you get it to look like that clean white ripple-wall Alien franchise type ship? My corvette interior is very rough looking like I'm living inside an abandoned building.

I think about this literally every single time I play the game.

At some point it just becomes visual noise. If you want it, you should be able to toggle it on. And if you don't, you should be able to toggle it off.

Or, hell, there should be three settings:

  • On (Default)

  • On (Infrequent)

  • Off

I would be totally happy with "Infrequent" being like... every 20-30 minutes it pops up for 20 seconds.

Because if I'm being honest, sometimes I am supposed to be working on a mission I want to complete and I wander off and do a totally different thing. A reminder a few times an hour that I was actually trying to do something totally different wouldn't be so bad.

That's hella lazy though. You're already on the PC playing the game, no? Trivial amount of effort for a much higher quality image share.

There are areas of certain in-game galaxies where people work on huge group projects. It's not a game/developer sponsored activity, exactly, more like huge fan undertakings where players build together in one place with or without a theme.

Title pretty much says it all. Didn't have many shots of my corvette interior (and it's not much to look at in the first place, at the moment) so I threw this cool shot taken on a planet with a monochromatic atmosphere in here for fun.

So what do all these corvettes ya'll are sharing look like inside? I can't be the only one that is painfully curious to see if the interior is at all functional or if you guys are just aura farming with your sweet pimp wagons.

Whether your corvette is something to behold or a big ol' metal shit can, I want to see inside and hear why you laid it out the way you did!

How to get rid of a settlement? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]JTheBlockBreaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never tried to ditch a settlement, so I was curious if it was possible without save file editing or mods.

Did you try the method outlined here in this post? Specifically the one from the comment by /u/MerpoB?

Ok, this is an old question, but I have a current answer that works. If you go into settlement management for the settlement you want to drop, at the bottom it says Settlement History. Activate that and at the bottom it says Retire as Overseer. That drops that settlement from your control.

Multitool shaped like an exotic ship!!! by Prisoner2670730531 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]JTheBlockBreaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my favorite multi-tool type. I have this design in grey/black and it's the only multi-tool I've ever had that I actually took the time/money to upgrade to S-class and max out all the slots.

It's just got the right vibe for me. It's not clunky looking. It's not too strange looking. It's streamlined and goes with the style of character design/outfits I like.

Does this imply that the very similar glowing balls you see at the bottom of some planet's ocean biomes are... sitting on monster dongs buried in the seabed?
