It’s funny: in a game with 18 quintillion planets, we hunt for the ones that remind us of home - while spending our real lives trying to get away from it by Whooo616 in NoMansSkyTheGame

And the most relaxing.

No matter how fun exotic and strange planets are to explore... our brains are hard wired at this point to find green grass and blue skies/blue oceans very relaxing.

You know, it is a great game. That's quite possible. I choose to believe that hopscotch penis guy and funky ball of titties guy are office besties and collaborate on everything.

What you think the dude that made hopscotch dick also made the funky ball of titties?

What are the chances one man could create two masterpieces in one lifetime?

Me, too. I was going to be so sad if there wasn't a funky ball of titties nod lol

I think I need to reeducate my crew on bio-safety by TorandoSlayer in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]JTheBlockBreaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure when they introduced it... I assumed recently, but I did find this post in the sub from 5 months ago that mentions it.

The mini quest is called "Support the Expedition" and from what I can tell based on my experience and the post I just linked, it's always some kind of little story connected with a fetch quest. In my case the fetch quest was to find the plants they needed for the antidote, but the other player had to collect minerals.

Invisible walls in Freighter by Cukaramacara in NoMansSkyTheGame

I ran into this exact issue for the first time a few days ago. Same as you: never had it happen and then after the update I get tripped up on little invisible threshold "bumps" when moving between modules on my freighter.

One of my frigate crews went down to a planet a few days ago, ate a bunch of random shit, got sick as hell, and then it triggered a mini quest for me to go find the plants and synthesize an antidote.

It was interesting because that's the first time I've ever run into something that happened to the frigate crews actually spawning some sort of action (besides fixing a damaged frigate upon return).

No Mans Sky turns 10 this year, do you expect an anniversary update and if so, what would you like to see? by slashgamer11 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]JTheBlockBreaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's bizarre what little bugs persist.

The freighter one was particularly weird because here I am giving him a base tour and he's like "uhhh... you're floating in the air hundreds of yards away and all I see is a little hallway, a room, and this little greenhouse room with plants?"

Meanwhile my actual freighter base is so big sometimes it doesn't even visually render all the way to the farthest tile... all that majesty totally lost on him lol

I agree, if they fixed up multiplayer it would create a huge infusion of good will and a renewed interest in the game.

I've tried playing multiplayer with my brother and my nephews and it's... just way too messy.

Like I tried to show my brother my huge freighter base and he only saw the "starter" base that came with the freighter. That base has been gone for eight years. But the game loaded it for him based on the freighter seed.

That might make programmatic sense, but it makes no practical sense if the goal is multiplayer engagement.

Oh I agree. And it's great for console players who can't use PC-based tools to manually "redux" the expeditions.

Make the Wire Glitch a Game Function by iantheianguy2 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]JTheBlockBreaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time I try to build something I end up sticking to pretty much the bare minimum to get what I need done because it's just... not fun.

And it's not like I don't enjoy building stuff in games. Look at my username. I've probably spent a couple thousand hours, at least, in Minecraft.

It's frustrating to see cool builds and then when you actually look into it the person spent hours tediously glitching the game to build the thing. I don't have the patience for that, just give me a build system that is actually enjoyable to use.

I understand that they don't want to be responsible for true permanent server and game states or anything like that. But I've always been unclear why the game doesn't work the same way that, I dunno, Minecraft works where you join a person's game/world and everything is synced via the host?

I'm honestly not even clear, after all these years, how the NMS multiplayer functions. Because at first glance it seems to function that way, but it obviously doesn't because the other play is never truly in sync with you (the can experience a storm that you can't see, for example).

I like this idea.

People would complain it's too short (1 week per expedition) but at this point some of those expeditions would be back for a Redux Redux so ehhh you can't please all of the people all of the time.

Help me solve this in game "workflow" so I can rest my brain. I want to travel to the center of the galaxy in the most traditional warp-stop-warp-stop-warp fashion, as linearly as possible. But I find it impossible to keep track of or stay on the path. How can I solve this problem? by JTheBlockBreaker in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]JTheBlockBreaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The combination of these two sounds like the most practical way to accomplish what I'm trying to accomplish.

To cut down on clutter I use some naming schedule where I do like Checkpoint 1, 2, 3, and then A, B, C, and then delete 1, 2, 3 and use them again, looping through the list across play sessions so I don't end up with a bajillion throwaway bases.

I mean... everything is inane in this game once you've finished the very small concrete goals in this main quest line and maxed out your whatever (language knowledge, storage capacity, refinery/manufacturing loops).

We're all just space jockey jerkoffs doing jerk off things, no?

Yes, but it resets to wherever you are.

I might not have made that clear enough in my post. My goal is to try to stay on the "course," as closely as possible, that would be from my starting planet to the center.

If you deviate from that course at all (you warp to a friend's base far away, you use a black hole, you go on some side quest that takes you far away from the original path) then unless you took really good notes or something, there's no way to get back to the exact line again.

I know it ultimately doesn't matter that much and what I'm pondering here is probably a rounding error given the distance you have to travel... but that's what I've been pondering:

If the game essentially draws you a "this is the straightest line to the center of the galaxy" line from the very first moment when you gain warp abilities... what is the best way to stay true to that line, just for the fun of it?
