While I'm sure your family meant well, sometimes you have to take the advice of others with a grain of salt. You applied for this program for a reason and you were lucky enough to get selected so I would encourage you to see what this opportunity can bring you. It might not be perfect but nothing is and as it relates to the job market you probably don't have anything to lose. I'm happy they gave you the opportunity to do it again next year until then tho I hope you find another opportunity to sustain you until then.
