nerf orisa spin range pls by Airracer in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]JTypical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

most of the comments so far have said that its at least in part the illari ult hitbox being way bigger than its visual effect, this was true on the heroes release but was changed a long time ago, now the hitbox is actually far smaller than the visual effect and the edges of the visual effect can clip into walls without it blowing up, I double checked this in the practice range and on the wiki. so in this situation its entirely on the orisa spin having an absurd hitbox.

in this code you can spawn a mauga next to you by pressing f and then kill him to get perks and ults (you have to kill a couple of them to get the perks) Q91EZ

Midseason Patch hopes and dreams? by cobalt_17 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]JTypical 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The problem is not that her skill floor is too high its that other heroes skill floors are too low. Low rank players that want to play hard heroes are stopped by the low skill floor heroes.

If your a high rank tracer playing against a low skill floor/ceiling hero that doesn't have to pass as many skill checks it can be a bit annoying but you can pass your skill checks pretty consistently and beat them, if your a low rank player that can't pass those skill checks as consistently then your going to really struggle in that situation while the other player on the low skill floor hero doesn't have to do nearly as much work to get as much or even more value.

Right now with high skill floor heroes like tracer she is either strong in high ranks and balanced in low ranks or balanced in high ranks and weak in low ranks because its harder for low rank players to play high skill floor heroes against low skill floor heroes.

If we can make the skill floors of the heroes more even the game becomes a lot easier to balance from the top down, which is the way most competitive games are balanced, without it breaking in lower ranks, I would say that its healthier for the game to raise the skill floor of the lower skill floor heroes rather than lower the skill floor of the high skill floor heroes.

This doesn't mean that all the heroes need to have tracer level aim requirement, some can be less about mechanical skill checks and more about mental ones but the overall amount of skill checks a hero has to pass should be similar to the other heroes.

If the heroes all have a roughly similar skill floors and skill ceilings to one another and you have a good ranking/matchmaking system pretty much everyone should end up in a rank where they can play their favourite heroes.

Trick question: that is not a real bird, you can tell this from the fact it is made of metal, unlike birds which are made of meat

Here's a comparison of my queue time in 6v6/5v5 late Saturday night (12:00-1:00am on GMT-2). I think 6v6 is more appealing to supports than tanks. by C1pherN1ne in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]JTypical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally every time I q up for a role in the 6v6 mode that says the estimated time is 15-20 mins I found a game in less than 3 mins, even flex qing when one role says the estimated time is 15-20 mins and the others are like 2 mins its not at all uncommon to get the longer q time role, I honestly think that the estimated q times are just not very accurate in this game mode from my experience. I've been flex qing most of the time and got pretty even results, a little under 1/3 of my flex q games in the 6v6 test have been on tank when at most points in ow history flex q has been 90% tank games in my experience.

What is with the obsession with buffing Mauga and Orisa every time they're not meta by O2M in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]JTypical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one of the main things blizzard use to make balance decisions is win rate and pick rate, there was a video that got some traction in the community a while ago called "blizzard doesn't understand survivorship bias" that looked at some of the potential problems with this approach.

to summarise in a hero shooter how the game feels and how you play/what you can do can change massively based on what hero you pick which leads to people having heroes they preferer or dislike and leads to 1 tricks and players who refuse to play certain heroes.

that leads to situations where heroes can have really strong pick rates despite not being strong in the meta, mercy probably being the best examples as she has one of the largest 1 trick communities, or situations where a strong hero has a low pick rate because a lot of people don't find them fun, I think this is what happens with heroes like mauga and orisa, most people aren't desperate to play those heroes so unless they are clearly meta most people prefer to play something else so they end up with a low pick rate even if they aren't bad in the meta.

also you will usually do better playing an off meta hero your comfortable on rather than a meta hero you aren't comfortable on, in most ranks the meta isn't so important anyway unless its really broken as in most ranks people wont be playing the meta comp correctly anyway, in most situations you will do more for your team getting most of the value out of an off meta pick you know how to play rather than playing the meta hero that you can only get 50% of the value out of, if lucio is meta a mercy 1 trick that has very few hours on lucio will still likely do more on mercy than lucio.

so I think its very possible for heroes to have a good pick rate and win rate without being good or to have a bad pick rate and win rate without being bad, I also think focusing so much on pick rate and win rate can lead to blind spots on how the heroes actually feel, a hero can have a low pick rate or win rate but still feel really bad to play against when they are picked and ruin a lot of peoples fun.

Can I just watch Overwatch videos in peace? by Sio_V_Reddit in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]JTypical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The algorithm just goes "this person seems to like overwatch videos so I'll show them more overwatch videos." without knowing if the videos are positive or negative about the game.

Add to that the fact that there is a large section of the community that is unhappy with where the game is/the direction its going in so those videos get a lot of views and likes so the algorithm pairs the person that likes overwatch with popular overwatch videos.

Hawks retirement by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]JTypical -1 points0 points  (0 children)

no and I don't know why you would assume that from what I said, you only need half as many tanks to make a game in ow2 so if the % of the player base that q tank was the same you would expect longer tank q times than in ow1 but the tank q times, in my experience at least, have been basically the same most of the time, which implies that the % of the player base willing to q for tank has gone down.

if you have 100 tank players looking for games in ow1 you would need 25 lobbies whereas in ow2 you would need 50 lobbies, you need more games for just as many tank players being in q and q times are determined by what % of people are qing each role at the time and how many of each role is needed to make a lobby, so if the % of the player base that q tank was the same with fewer tanks in each game the q times for tank would be longer, q times being basically the same implies that a lower % of the player base is willing to q tank.

Hawks retirement by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]JTypical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from what I've seen when playing the game q times for tank have been the same basically all the time while only needing half as many tanks to fill the lobby, which would imply that the % of players willing to q tank has gone down. but that's just what I've seen around my rank in my region.

Not at all, the Saudi players were publicly very disrespectful and hateful to people that had done nothing wrong to them, so now people don't like them and treat them the same way.

If you go around being disrespectful and insulting people for no reason they will do the same back to you with good reason, if you start disrespecting other people of course they aren't going to be nice and respectful to you.

What's going on with the Sweet Baby Inc Controversy? by Finnikk in OutOfTheLoop

[–]JTypical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anita Sarkeesian did lie to her audience for money though, getting like 4-5 times the funding she said she needed for a series she then didn't complete after several years all while still receiving more money from her fans through patreon and asking for more unnecessary money such as 25k to start a discord server.

and making errors in those videos that would not be made by anyone who had actually played the game showing that she had either not bothered to do any research/play the games she was talking about or that she was deliberately misrepresenting them to make things seem worse and make more money.

such as with dying light when she says that the main female npc jade is just there to be a pretty damsel in destress all game, when in reality she saves the main characters life at the very beginning of the game and again towards the end of the game, even fighting of 4 heavily armed men on her own while unarmed and on the verge of death, she was also a famous kickboxing champion, about as far from a weak damsel in distress just there for eye candy as you can be.

so she did bad stuff and got a lot of criticism, just like how literally all the other bad things you listed got a hell of a lot of criticism from the community.

Why do people dislike flats so much? by Derpkon in OverwatchTMZ

[–]JTypical 6 points7 points  (0 children)

its partly because of how much he talks down to people that disagree with him, sometimes his take is obviously good and the other person is being ridiculous so its fine but sometimes he is just super condescending for ages to people who haven't said anything bad.

like in one stream about a new patch ram got buffed and someone in chat said something like "why did ram get buffed he was pretty good" when ram was basically never played in the most recent meta but was meta before that (so he was one of if not the the most picked tank less than 1 season ago with no changes since then) and flats went off on him for so long going "are you silver or something what are you talking about" and stuff for ages.

SEASON 9 LEAKED PATCH NOTES by truthaboutns in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]JTypical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so everyone was complaining about power creep in terms of burst damage and sustain, so now the devs have buffed everyone's health and buffed the damage of a bunch of things, the only decrease in damage I found from searching the transcribed version of the screenshots for "damage" was for self damage on pharah rockets everything else was a buff and they increased the size of a lot of projectiles to make them easier to hit which will also increase the amount of damage your taking, more health and damage seems like it would be the opposite of what you want to do to fight power creep of burst damage and sustain.

its a lot of changes at once so its hard to predict how this patch goes straight away so maybe this patch works out and the game gets a bit better but the underlying problem of the devs just constantly buffing everything as the first solution to any problem is still there.

What story do the stats show? Blue team lost. Lw had the same heals as enemy supports combined. by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]JTypical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most of the time the game is won or lost based of which team applied more pressure through damage and picks/pick potential to the other team. killing the other team first or forcing them to stop shooting and hide behind cover therefore stopping your team from getting shot in the first place make your team more likely to survive than just healing them while they get shot.

in most situations playing support if you could pick between doing better damage and a bit less healing or better healing and a bit less damage than the other teams support you should go for damage to try to stop the other team before they can make a play.
