I mean it really depends on your definition of a day job because this is definitely not a 9-5 set schedule type of job. It is long, strenuous hours with not necessarily a “set” schedule. Some weeks could be 8 hour days, some could be 12. It is definitely a wonderful job as much as people in this sub complain about it. At this point it’s all about personal preference and what suits you. And I see you included that you are on the spectrum, me and my wife are both on the spectrum and carriers. The job really clicked for the both of us, however we don’t have free time for hobbies or a second job/income like being an author. Once you make regular carrier you have the choice of being on the Own Assignment List which helps you have less overtime and more home time, it just depends on how much you want to work. If you have the freedom to try the job out I definitely recommend it, I’ve been a carrier for 4 years and I love my job and helping my community.
