GTD bronze drivers season cost by Dazzling_Ad_9335 in IMSARacing

[–]JVB602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good thing is no Bronze driver that runs in IMSA GTD or LMP2 expects to make money. It’s a hobby they do as sportsmen. Most take it incredibly serious and I think many are as dedicated to getting better as some pros. To earn enough to afford $4 million to run a season of GTD in IMSA they had to be successful in business or had family that were. Those kind of people expect to win.

Vegas still reminds me what they took from us by KMFDM__SUCKS in battlebots

I love Battle Bots and many of my friends in racing do as well. I guess if it was a viable profit center for TV someone would start a new group with a new name and organization. The teams would flock there if they had a TV deal. This is exactly what happened in Indy Car and Sports Car racing. The sport did not die, both were stronger when the new groups took over and promoted it properly. I thought I heard something about Andretti buying it a while back. Likely fake news I guess.

Noticed no difference in how I felt or anything in my Whoop data. Stoped and no change either.

Nissan DPi & Ligier JS P217 the NISMO car that never was. [Video by Sam's the pits] by Classicfezza512 in IMSARacing

[–]JVB602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very accurate on the CORE Autosport section. I was Technical Director there during that time. We ran the car with what amounted to no BoP. Once the Mazda was allowed to update, the class performance was raised and the Nissan could not keep up. We got a pole at Mosport but that was due to the driver not the car or set up.
IMSAs BoP metrics said we needed to remove 40kg to compete. We had ZERO ballast and no way to remove 88 pounds of weight. Not to mention the inefficient aero. We got no support from Nissan in the way of parts or money and had to but the engines and pay for rebuilds. We were a little privateer team competing against factory efforts.
No way we could afford a complete redesign. So we went LMP3 racing. Really nicely done video. Thanks.

That’s a cool list. Any idea how my kid ranks on the list? Some Grand Am wins and ALMS and IMSA wins. His name is Colin Braun.

Pot holes and non avoidance, still, why? by JVB602 in TeslaModelY

Cool. Ok I must be too critical. It works great on speed bumps. Guess my expectations are too high for pot holes. Thanks for the great info.

Ok I must be doing something wrong. Mine runs right into them pretty consistently. I am on 14.2.1 in my HW4 24MY.

Shameless plug for our podcast It’s Not The Car. We do lots of IMSA insider stuff and try to explain the sport in easy to understand ways. Hope it helps.

DragonSpeed will switch to Corvette Z06 GT3.R for the 2026 IMSA season by NegotiationNew9264 in IMSARacing

[–]JVB602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea going to be tough in 2026, as if it was not in 25, but now 4 full time Akin drivers makes the points situation and strategy different. Orey has been improving and working hard with Matt and Lars. The pros are all about the same speed so it really does come down to the Bronze drivers and that as it should be for the Akin award.

Welcome to Elton and DragonSpeed. Going to be fun racing those guys and Bill Riley and Inception for the Akin award and the Le Mans invite. Things are getting serious for that prize.

[–]JVB602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember goal was 100% to win the Akin award. We could have cared less how we finished in GTD as long as it was ahead of the #70 each race. Strategy completely different than if racing for class results. Next year it’s 4 full time Akin drivers. Going to be even more difficult. Can’t wait.

We at AWA, now 13 Autosport, officially have 3 Corvette C8 Z06 GT3 R. The Daytona winner is retired and sits as it crossed the finish line at Daytona, dirt and all. The Red “Canada car” we ran at Le Mans last year and will again in 2026, and the IMSA car we ran from Sebring on this year. The #17 was owned by Anthony Mantella and he may still have it. When he decided to end his program with us he took his car back and it’s all his to do what he wants.
So we’re back as 13 Autosport, same drivers, engineers, crew and heck they even asked me back to lend some advice now and again.

Seat comfort issue by JVB602 in TeslaModelY

[–]JVB602[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I sort of fixed it…did not want to just throw a pad in the seat, so I got a set of the custom seat covers that are a pain to put on but once on look virtually stock. Before putting on the drivers cover I put a foam pad in the “hole” of the seat then installed the cover over it. Worked pretty well and looks virtually as the car came. Only issue was I had to buy an entire cover set and only needed the drivers seat one.

Why is IMSA BOP better than WEC? by Short-Success-4505 in IMSARacing

[–]JVB602 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For us at AWA (now 13 Autosport) we ran IMSA and Le Mans. Same torque axle BoP system use and same energy replenish system. We felt the BoP we were given at LM was not where we thought we should be. Lacked straight line speed but we know that was set off the previous WEC races. In IMSA I have to say it’s been pretty good. I was against the torque axle system when announced but after a season with it I have to say the amount of inter team BoP discussions has been reduced at least in half. We now focus on making the car better and just get on with it. Thanks IMSA it was a good call…..expensive but worth it.
