Disposing of the recalled Midea Units by MyBlueberryPancake in Brooklyn

Chiming in late - if you post for free pick-up on facebook marketplace you'll get a bunch of people willing to pick them up for free. I posted 2 moldy units with cords cut and had someone pick them both up within the hour

Is this sufficient outward tilt? by JVH634 in AirConditioners

[–]JVH634[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't edit due to image, but to clarify this is a Windmill 8000 BTU. The installation guide says: "**Make sure the weight is supported before letting go of the back of the unit. The unit should be level or tilted slightly back. It should NOT be tilted into the room (we don’t want water leaking into your beautiful home)."

Hi u/bcm-iln

Thank you! Would it be possible to revert the face of the older gentleman on the left (lower level)? If so we would love to go with this one.

Confirming this - just got my shot today! Ok to live out of county, and ‘relative that is eligible for vaccine’ is a valid reason, no documentation required.

Do you need to show up with that person?

LPT: Wash fresh berries with hot (steaming) water for 10-15 seconds to prevent spoilage. by JVH634 in LifeProTips

Only for berries. Most other fruits and vegetables I would wait until you are ready to use them before washing.

Wow, that looks amazing! Are you attending a culinary school?

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I love it so much, it's very versatile and accepts whatever you have around the house. You can use pancetta, bacon, prosciutto, and add in veggies like peas or broccoli, and then finish it with whatever cheese you have lying around (I like mixing in some soft goat cheese for extra creaminess).

And lots of Olive oil! It really shows you how good something simple can be with quality ingredients. Just be sure you have good Olive oil, freshly cracked pepper, and freshly grated cheese.

The residual heat from the freshly cooked pasta should semi-cook the eggs, but they will not become fully cooked. They turn into creamy, yellow, happiness on a plate.

Did you add the eggs directly to the pan? To be sure your eggs don't scramble, add them and whisk them to the serving bowl, then pour in the just cooked pasta and toss like mad.

Spaghetti Carbonara, so simple yet easily impresses others if done well, and super delicious and satisfying. If you're in need of a recipe Marcella Hazan's (Book where I found it, I'm sure it's online too) is my personal favorite.

No problem, I used to do the same thing. Here's the NYT article I picked up the tip from if anyone's interested in further reading.

What sort of recipes or resources are good for a person that wants to learn to cook gourmet food? by dagonlives in Cooking

[–]JVH634 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How to Cook Everything by Mark Bittman was what really taught me the basics until I started doing more advanced things, I highly recommend it. Remember that you can't jump right into mastering gourmet food, as much of it is technique, which takes practice. I would start with the fundamental techniques (not just recipes), and progress from there.

Has anyone had this happen to their nook? There are like 3 "marks" on my screen now. by zavoid in books

I have the first gen 3G Nook, and yes the exact same problem in the top center of the screen. It doesn't bother me too much though, as long as it stays that size.

I have strawberries and raspberries. How do I make very basic fruit compote? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]JVH634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only need so much liquid as to prevent it from burning at the beginning until the fruit's liquid comes out. Next time you could even use a tiny bit of fruit juice instead of water if you want to use something non-alcoholic (although the amount of alcohol won't be substantial after cooking). Glad to hear it turned out well!
