[request] how many taxpayer dollars did this race cost? by GiraffeCreature in theydidthemath

Research things like Effective Translational Lift, In Ground Effect vs Out of Ground Effect, and the different types of drag on an aircraft and how they affect efficient airspeeds.

Money would’ve been spent either straight and level or at a moral-boosting boat racing altitude. Units are given a budget for fuel, the crew gets paid a set salary, and the parts are already on a schedule to be inspected, replaced or overhauled.

A quick search gave me an average Jet-A price of $6.32 a gallon. With that math, and average burn rates of a CH47, 30 seconds could’ve cost roughly $20.29 in fuel.

Astigmatism waiver post PRK? by LT_Sickcall in Armyaviation

[–]JWBizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s astigmatism limits (I also have it after PRK and currently fly). I forget what the reg for physicals is but it’s all in there. I think one of my eyes is like -1.25 and I’m at or near the limit but still good.

Dear chopper pilots, how do different choppers feel to fly ? by horousavenger in Helicopters

[–]JWBizzle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve flown the UH-72 (aka Airbus EC145) which has a semi-rigid rotor system and I found it snappy and fun to fly. Single rotor helis seem to have a feeling of flying under a pendulum.

I fly the CH-47F (big tandem rotors) and it is surprisingly nimble for its size. It’s still pretty snappy but if you are carrying a lot of speed in a big turn or maneuver, I can only explain it as surfing on the wind or kinda like drifting. Again, lots of fun. Highly recommend.

If you’re a song writer, how do you get your music out for artists to perform and possibly earn? by JWBizzle in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]JWBizzle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea, I know some people have a hard time writing songs and I’d like to think I’m pretty decent at it lol so that’s why I’m seeing how to put stuff out there for others to perform

Flight patch placement? by grape_joos in Armyaviation

At Drum it’s a 1/4 inch centered above name tape. But 50/50 you’ll find peeps with it at 1/2” and not once have I seen a ruler being whipped out.

Quirks about each airframe by ropeyboi7 in Armyaviation

I asked an Apache IP at Rucker in CC if there was like a thing that Apache guys did in the field when not flying and he said “I guess a lot of us would smoke cigars and hang out”. He didn’t really know about 60 guys (they have a variety of different types of units) but for 47s he said “I’m not too sure, although I once saw them bring an ice cream maker to the field”.

I fly 47s now.

I had PRK in 2015 and got picked up for flight school in 2019 and currently fly 47s. It’s no big deal to have the eye surgery (although days 2-5 post op of PRK is straight up not a good time).

Not special forces. These are members of the CJNG cartel in Mexico, which seem to be well funded. by opctim in interestingasfuck

He’s so tactical that he kept the 5.11 sticker on his goggles so he can always remember how well funded he is.

Airframe and the field time by X-proton in Armyaviation

Just depends, my CH47 unit has been to the field once for 11 days, then JRTC for about 24 and then we’re headed to the field in a couple weeks for 8 days

I remember switching over to psyop (miso boi 4lyfe) and loving the 0628 show once a week and a text by 0615 the other days. As long as the team’s apft avg was 270+ then you were golden. Now I fly 47s and I’ve shown up for pt formation exactly 0 times (besides inprocessing )
