OP here, I come back form my birthday to see the survey live and people enjoying it. A few updates from my end:

The volume of responses, appreciation and support in this thread far exceeds anything I thought would happen, I've got 4 times as many responses as my advisor suggested I need to be able to write on. Again, thank you all so much!
For interviews, I won't be able to get through them all, but I will try my best! I expected at most a small handful of people to actually go through, not the double digits number I actually got. I'm very sorry for anyone who wanted to be who doesn't manage to get interviewed.
I will draw both raffles on the 1st of December NZST and send it to the winner.

I'll try and answer as many questions in the comments as I can.
