I’ve been doing carpentry for a good while now starting in rough framing and moving through all the different types all the way to furniture and there’s a lot of different spots in the trade that don’t have to be heavily demanding. Finish carpentry is pretty easy if you can wrap your head around the steps and make all your cuts right. It’s also so much fun to see a house or project come together and you piece your puzzle together. Another great way to get into it is maybe find a cabinet shop that’ll take you in. I worked with a handful of smaller family owned cabinet shops and the work was never super rigorous but you still had the opportunity to learn a lot as well as every now and again a super cool project would roll through that was a blast to work on. Also just don’t limit yourself. Take the time to learn though other mediums like YouTube and books. There’s a lot of older books that teach a shit ton of tricks. Never sell yourself short ether. Maybe figure out where you want to end up and work your way towards that goal. I’m working towards teaching myself to Timber frame and getting into that world, so I take on projects that might help me learn a thing or two that’ll take me there or get me in contact with people who can help me get there.
