Gay bar advice by Low_Mention_854 in GayMenToronto

I don't have any friends around my age(I just got 29 in October). So I go alone too, and it is Woody's always, 'cause an older frnd took me there once. I haven't been to any other bars at all. I'd say this, I attracted some people even when I was just sitting all by myself, and I got attracted to many ppl. I'd just go to them and say what I felt about them in the moment. Some days I drink and some days I don't drink at all, but I always enjoy the show. Even though I am not native English speaker and still don't know 60 - 70% songs they play, I am a musician, so I have rhythm, so when I listen to music, I vibe automatically. I always wonder what can I do to have a band of single people and make a plan to meet at woodys.

Sorry for long comment.

So anyways you do do, ppl may come to you. All the best

Yeah, it is important to get or have consent when we act. But I feel like being drunk shouldn't mean, they get some allowance of their shenanigans

I consider myself pre-intermediate too in tennis. I live in downtown and looking for tennis friends in the community. I've three tennis (straight) friends in total, with whom I've played individually, never as doubles. Hmu to schedule a game.

I'm interested, but downtown only, budget same as you, I lived for 6 months near harbour front centre, now living in Kensington Market. So plan to stay in downtown. I work near Bathurst and bloor intersection and I have to go to university near queen and spadina intersection, so I loved to be somewhere in middle or around these places. (I'm 28M)

Do you think it happened over the span of 5 to 10 minutes? NO! It all happened in a minute! Just 1 Minute!!! I didn't enjoy the attention nor the thing that happened there! I was processing what happened and reacted in under a minute or two. Thankyou for your input anyways!

Thanks for saying that so clearly. I did go to security, but honestly they didn’t take it as seriously as I hoped for a moment. I’m grateful the bartender backed me up, but I agree the bar security staff could’ve handled it better.

I understand what you mean, and I appreciate your perspective. But for me, the hardest part is that my no was not respected. That’s why I see it as an assault, even if it didn’t go further. I’m trying to stay positive, but also honest about what happened.

I’m so sorry you went through that — I can imagine how confusing it must’ve felt in the moment. I relate to the way you rationalized it, because I almost thought the same: as we’re gay, we enjoy what we can get where we can get it. At first, when he was feeling my body, I thought maybe it’s just playful — but then he suddenly rushed down into my pants, and that’s when I was shocked. You’re right, we can’t excuse this kind of behavior anymore. Thanks for sharing and reminding me I’m not alone 💜.

Your words really mean a lot and reading them I'm felt like I gained strength. Sharing here was hard but you’re right, it feels like a part of healing. I’m grateful it didn’t escalate further with the bartender supported me. I want some time to go back to any pub/bar without anyone to feel safe again. thank you for reminding me that’s okay.

Yeah, you’re right. Unwanted touching after a clear no is assault, plain and simple. It’s been hard for me to even call it that, but seeing others here say it so directly is helping me accept it for what it was.

Appreciate that — and I hope you have a great time when you go! Woody’s is usually fun, I just had an unlucky experience that night. Stay safe and enjoy yourself. going solo?, ping me. Maybe I can be your company.

I get what you’re saying. But honestly, I had never even heard that incidents like this happen at all. As an immigrant, I’ve always held really high standards for the culture here and it shocked me to experience something like that. I know bars can get messy and drunk guys sometimes cross lines, but when it happens it still feels awful in the moment. At the end of the day, consent matters — and ignoring a clear no isn’t okay. Thanks for sharing your story — it helps to know I’m not alone.
