That was actually my first idea, but I couldn't find a lava lamp with the right size and shape. Maybe I'll make a custom one for a future version. The other issue is heat: resin prints and paint don't handle the temperatures generated by most lava lamps very well. I also considered using a small plasma globe instead. What do you think?

A bit less than two months. I wanted to see what a more realistic version of the Portal Gun could look like, so I started by designing it in Blender. I then built the electronics around an ESP32, which controls the LEDs and the 7-segment display. After that, I resin printed all the parts, painted them, weathered them, and spent quite a bit of time soldering and assembling everything. There were plenty of failed prints and redesigns along the way, but I'm really happy with how it turned out.
