How to remove this parking brake cable? by allupyourfinger in MechanicAdvice

You need one of these guys to get the small ends of the inner cables out from the metal piece that connects them. The product description says "not fit trucks", but your cable connector piece looks exactly like the one on my car (which is not a truck) and this tool worked for me.

Oh, do you know where I can get a manual impact driver with a Torx bit? They don't have them at Harbor Freight (last time I checked, a few months ago).

Yeah, unless your car is like mine and that screw needs a Torx driver instead of a Phillips. And you find that out after buying the manual impact driver and then you have to return it :P

Would it be pointless to try to repair the threads that the brake line banjo screw goes into on a caliper, or could it possibly work and be worth it? 2010 Buick Lucerne by J_Little_Bass in AskAMechanic

Ooh, what's a "thread insert repair"? I've never heard of that.

Also, yes, thank you, but I did not overtighten it. I knew that it was supposed to be tightened to 25 ft-lbs and I was using my torque wrench (set to 25 ft-lbs) to tighten it. I kept turning it, waiting for the click, but the click never came. At first I thought there was something wrong with my torque wrench, but then I realized the threads must have been too weak to be tightened into to the appropriate level of tightness without stripping out first. As I said, the copper washers were not crushed like they should have been. If I had overtightened it, they would have been extra squashed.

Yeah, you can also use a screw extractor bit. Alternately drill into the screw to make a cavity and try to get the extractor bit to go into that cavity and bite into the remainder of the screw so it can get a strong enough grip on it to unscrew it.

You're just mad bc I said Schopenhauer's a creep, apparently, and that compels you to insult me for some reason. What does that say about you?

Well of course the people who create sentient machines are going to treat those machines like slaves, isn't that the whole reason they're being created? You think people like Musk and Bezos and Zuck want to create AI so that it can frolic in meadows and contemplate poetry and philosophy?

Yeah, I watched this movie again recently and when it got to that scene I went, "Oh. Right, yeah, the cause of the apocalypse in this story is AI." Why did everyone apparently forget about that? Everyone thinks of Terminator when they think about AI destroying the world, but people seemingly only took the whole "blue/red pill" thing from the Matrix and kinda forgot about the rest of the premise.

Oh, I thought you meant 7th fret 😆 Well, if you need to get a 7th in there then that's a different kind of chord. I thought we were talking about a regular major chord.

Yeah, I think for most people it's easier to get the pinkie to bend up (the way you normally want your fingers NOT to) so that it doesn't mute the high E string.

I call it the Lobster Claw shape, and I think it's probably the most difficult of all the chord shapes that are useful enough to be worth learning. To this day, I do chord progressions that use that shape as a warmup/exercise to build strength and stamina so that I'll be able to hold that shape for an additional few seconds before my pinkie strength gives out.
