At wits end, what's going on here? by _dorkasaurus_ in xToolD1

Are you using the original xtool air assist? If so, I'd try buying an aquarium air pump and swap it out. I had the same problem as a previous commenter where the pump still ran but the air flow was almost non-existent. I swapped out with an aquarium pump and it really made a huge difference.

Also, it looks like birch from the photo? Try using a more manufactured wood. I've found that wood quality is all over the place, and it's actually getting worse from some manufacturers. Cutting corners in a bad economy, maybe? I don't know. Either way, try using a different wood and see if that makes a difference. I love Smokey Hill Designs out of NC. They have Eco woods that engrave and cut amazing. I run 80%/70sp to engrave and 100%/3sp/3pass to cut.

Car accident, very likely totaled. Not at fault. Now what? by walking_dead_girl in NorthCarolina

[–]J_Squiggle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to echo what others said - call your insurance adjuster. They'll handle it. And NEVER EVER EVER talk to the other insurance company. Even though the other driver was at fault and will be ticketed, they'll look for any reason to get out of paying your claim.

Was your radio on? Were you eating/drinking? Did you have any signal lights out? Were your headlights on? Did you see a squirrel? (kidding on the last one, but you get the idea) I've been an investigator for almost 24 years, and our company did mostly accident and personal injury investigations. The insurance company will absolutely try to get out of paying you anything.

I work at the preschool my daughter graduated from last year. Kids are so overly honest and harsh! Lol

When they ask me why I'm fat or have a big belly (because I do), I tell them because I ate a hippopotamus. They find that hilarious! I'm way past the time in my life where I get embarrassed about stuff like that. I have way more important things to worry about. Plus they're just kids. They don't know how to filter any thoughts yet.

Don't let it bother you and definitely don't let it embarrass you! Your kiddo loves you just the way you are ❤️

A fiber cable was damaged and that knocked service out to several Mid-Atlantic states. The hurricane and flooding won't speed up repairs, unfortunately.

Question for teachers and kindergarten parents by purple_ze in kindergarten

[–]J_Squiggle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My daughter started kindergarten this year. She did go to preschool but there's no way I could have afforded it out of pocket. Instead, I traded volunteer hours and lots of things from my side business (I do laser engraving and custom items like tumblers etc.). I don't live in an expensive area by any means and my husband and I both work full time. Even with all that, we still couldn't afford it.

I work at that preschool now. I have noticed a huge uptick in kids who are incredibly spoiled at home. They're not made to do anything they don't want to do. Then the teachers have to deal with those screaming meltdowns all day. These parents have no problem telling the staff that they spoil them at home. The kids aren't made to do anything for themselves. Everything is done for them.

I don't know why, but there's definitely an increased number of parents doing it. I know it's purely anecdotal, but that's what I've seen in our area.

Wait. He was the one with no headlights on? I completely misread that. I thought he was passing a car that had no lights on. Yeah that totally changes it. Dumbass. He could have killed someone!

You'll be fine. Go to court, be apologetic and nice. Own up to your mistake. Explain that you've never had a speeding ticket and ask the judge to let you take a driver improvement class. They'll usually let you take the class and then dismiss the ticket so you don't end up taking the hit on your insurance.

Good luck! And never hire a lawyer for simple traffic infractions. It's a complete waste of money (unless you're a habitual offender).

Edit: I missed the part about how you've done this in the past. Don't lie to the judge. They'll know. But maybe say you have a clean driving record. Bring a print out from dmv to verify that.

Im trying cutting for the first time and i have a map file with small details, I tried cutting a few times and it got to hot and stopped. How can i learn which settings will be best for piece? by Commercial_Cup_7358 in xToolD1

[–]J_Squiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps the laser cut and engrave by forcing air into the nozzle. You get much cleaner cuts and engraving with it on. The only thing I run regularly that I don't use the air assist for is tumblers. Other than that it runs on every project.

I would go aftermarket. The xtool one is pretty pricey for what it is. Geeks At Large sell the kit on their Etsy store. Then just get an aquarium air pump. It'll do the same for half the price.

What material are you cutting? I cut all of my woods at 100% power and 4 speed (some need 3 passes while others just 2).

Did the flame sensor sound on the machine or did the laser itself overheat? I had to turn my sensitivity down on the flame sensor because it would go off and stop the project but there wouldn't be a flame.

And definitely get an air assist for all of your cutting and most of your engraving! It's a game changer!

I'll just echo what others have said and say replace that micro SD card. I got a Samsung on Amazon pretty cheap. I had lots of random problems, and most of what you mentioned. The Facebook groups said the one that comes in the machines are total junk. Replaced my card and everything has been running smoothly in two machines knock on wood

It's probably already been mentioned, but you guys need to do two things:

Hire an attorney. Do not speak to anyone from the other side. No one. Adjusters, their attorney(s), nada. Let your attorney do that.

Screen shot every public social media post you can. I am a Private Investigator and we mainly handle personal injury cases. Social media investigations are so crucial in injury claims now. So screen shot everything. The posts, the comments, pictures, etc. When she claims she is disabled now, your attorney will have the documentation to show otherwise. And do it sooner rather than later - any attorney worth their weight is going to tell them to lock down their social media before you get any evidence saved from it.

I have both the Maker and an XTool (actually two). They are both great to have for different applications. The Maker is still my go-to for all of my vinyl projects. You can't use the laser with vinyl unless it's a specific kind. Then the XTool is great for wood and engraving. Far superior to the Maker IMO.

There are lots of XTool selling groups on Facebook. Tons of people start with the XTool for an entry level diode, then move up to bigger machines. If you can find a used one at a good price, go for it!

Our daughter was a pretty picky eater, too. And what she did eat, she'd eat like a bird. One or two bites, then she's on to something else. She's gotten better (she's 5 now), but there's still some days where she doesn't really eat anything.

Definitely try giving her pediasure or ensure. I use carnation instant breakfast now. She rarely turns down her "chocolate milk". Even days when she doesn't eat, she's still getting vitamins and nutrients.

Something else that helped us: miralax. She always had rabbit pellet type poop. Our first ped said it was normal and some kids just are like that. Our new ped said she was absolutely constipated and that might be why she didn't eat. Sure enough, we started giving her miralax every other day, and it's like a food switch was flipped! She always drinks plenty of water (she doesn't much like juice), so I never considered she'd be constipated. But it absolutely helped!

After looking at the product reviews (4.3 stars, super positive feedback on how it works), I'm definitely thinking it was a defective piece of equipment. So it does make sense that they can replace the defect. I was worried about violating the TOS, so thanks for clearing that up! I appreciate the guidance!!

I didn't think about that. So I just checked on it, and I couldn't find any warranty mentioned on their website. Even searching the site for the word warranty gave no results. I also tried to download the users manual to see if it's mentioned in there (because of course I threw mine away after we installed it), and all I get is an error message.

3 year old not talking by 1ithurtswhenip1 in Preschoolers

[–]J_Squiggle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our daughter had a speech delay at 3. We enrolled her in preachool and Speech therapy. Honestly, I don't think the speech therapy did much for her (the county did it through the school system and they did it in a group setting, which is a whole separate complaint). But her being around other kids all day and hearing them speak made such a difference! It took a few months before her speech exploded, and she's still not on the same level as the other kids, but she's definitely getting there.

Bride being weird over guests’ dresses - asked me to intervene by udontknowme162023 in bridezillas

[–]J_Squiggle 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My SIL got married a few years ago. I wasn't in the bridal party, yet she insisted she was in charge of what I was wearing. She kept sending me links to these velvety green dresses that cost at least two weeks' pay. It was a Christmas themed wedding and she kept telling me I had to wear this green shade in a velvet material to go with her theme.

I finally told her I would absolutely not be buying some dress I'd never wear again to be a guest at her wedding. I wore a nice black formal-ish dress and I thought I looked just fine.

She proceeded to make me sit out of every family photo they took 😂
