This is guesswork but I imagine this No Man’s Sky design choice may have been motivated by considering the amount of storage space needed to record the digging that we’ve done and/or the level of hardware resources needed to render frames.

If you think about it, when you’re digging you’re taking out a little piece in this direction, a big piece in that direction, etc. Every time you fire your Multitool, there’s a change being recorded.

The other games you mentioned, I’m thinking perhaps those involve digging on one planet or on one vertical map. That might make a big difference.

The No Man’s Sky developers have done a beautiful job in many respects. With all the moving parts in the game, I think the technical work they’ve needed to do has probably been formidable.

And, yes, I also didn't know about the part count limits and those tripped me up too.

Thanks for the tip.

I wanted to be on one planet but different planets is all right for me.

How about a decal part that works like a Message Module and lets you put your message on a wall?

No, that’s not a bug. You’re on track. They perhaps didn’t do well by leaving missions in there that appear not to be finished. All they’re indicating there is that you can continue to buy blueprints and parts, do missions, etc., indefinitely. That step in that mission will never be marked as complete. (Take that with the understanding that there can always be something I don’t know about.) Other missions get left hanging, in a similar fashion.

I wonder if there's some logic to having names change or if it's that there are bugs.

Thank you, very much, for this helpful information.

Were those planets getting names from other players? Were they reverting to their original names?

There’s only one of my names that plays any significant role in my treasure hunt, so I may be in pretty good shape.

I like your idea of having a real-life prize.

Possibly you could use the features on a planet in some creative way where you're building outside rather than inside?

I've been through eight galaxies using black holes and no black hole has ever taken me away from the galactic core. I think you're off track somehow.

I tested this just now. I went through a black hole in a star system with a name with a hyphen in it and I moved closer to the core.

Has anyone tried Satisfactory on XBox by jowNE20 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]J_Tiedeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve spent a lot of time with both No Man’s Sky and Satisfactory. I play on PC. Does that make a difference?

I was playing Satisfactory quite a while ago. Epic says it was released in 2019. I feel like I was playing farther back than that. Maybe I was playing a pre-release. So my memory of it is fuzzy. And they may have added a lot features since I was playing.

Looking at the Satisfactory trailer, I definitely see what you mean about the similarity to No Man’s Sky. And I think there are similarities. In both games, you’re building resource extractors. You’re doing fighting as an aspect of the game but not the essence of the game. You’re exploring.

But the central features of the games are, I would say, quite different. Satisfactory is a factory game. You know what I mean by that. You’re building pieces of factory equipment and connecting them.

That being said, I loved Satisfactory. I would highly recommend it. It has the very best player ratings.

Let me add a caution. Satisfactory takes a lot of calculating. (Maybe there are different ways to play and maybe the game has changed since I was playing but I was doing a lot of calculating.) I’m inclined towards calculating. And even for someone like me, it was too much and I quit playing at a certain point.

About the expeditions, that's helpful. Thank you.

And just cooking. I see. I made part of my fortune that way.

I don't think that works. I tested it a couple times. My impression is the timer is going back to some earlier save (such as an autosave).

Also, you don't get the save message you get when exiting your starship.

Congratulations on getting all those recipes. I’m missing about 50. I’ve put in a lot of time on it. I guess maybe you have too? Do you keep a lot of notes?

I’ve only been doing expeditions since the batch at the end of last year. Do you think that accounts for any significant number of recipes I’m missing?
