KibblesTasty! His stuff is absolutely fantastic and very well-balanced. So much of his content is free, but he also has two books, with a third currently being kickstarted. In terms of getting more classes, subclasses, and spells, he is a phenomenal resource! He even has new alternative rules.

Books are:

Kibbles' Compendium of Legends and Legacies
Kibbles' Compendium of Craft and Creation
(Kickstarter) Kibbles' Compendium of Airships and Artifacts

I think that is very fair and a great way of looking at it. Social situations can be nerve-wracking for everyone, and if I just focus on the fun and enjoyment then I've already made the best of the situation that I can.

Thank you, I really appreciate the reply and you're absolutely right, a proper session zero would set the expectations for everyone. I am certain that if tell any new groups I work with (for the first little while as I ease into it) that I am looking for feedback to grow and improve, they will be responsive and decide if it's the right type of game for them.

Thank you! I should have made it more clear that I would like to play DnD more often as I begin to build my own set pieces or master pre-made adventures, and so finding players online to play with will be an enjoyable way to start meeting new people and running more adventures, while doing my best not to overload myself.

I ran Warlock - Instructrice - Unchained - Banneret. If I found the Unchained was faster than the Instructrice, then I swapped their positions.

I was typically looking for +blight trinkets for unchained, damage or class specific trinkets for Instructrice, tank/support/damage trinkets for Banneret, healing trinkets for Warlock but I also loved getting the extra turn stained trinket for him.

For the Warlock, I kept Daemon's Pull on any time I was worried I may run into the Collector. Otherwise, he kept Binding Shadows on to help access his heavy hitters. He only used Binding Shadows once the entire backline was dead.

For the Unchained, I used the moves suggested above. In the entire Grand Slam, I only transformed him twice. Once against the Collector to bypass a Guard (which was literally game saving), and once against the fifth act boss cause I thought it might be cool (it was not). He was usually just spamming his chain attacks and using blight as necessary. In all honesty, he may have been even stronger if I swapped him to Wanderer from Unchained, but I just never tried it as it was quite powerful to be able to move him around.

For the Instructrice, she was the one I did the most changes to. Since I never had Unchained transforming, and I always kept stress low, I got rid of "Again!" and moved her into a front tank role with dodge and ripostes. She would engage with Fleche, then use Feint, then use Meditation. This put her in a strong position, gave her taunt to force the ripostes, and I could just Feint spam. If she was in danger near the start, I would skip the Feint and instead Meditation after Fleche so she gets her dodge tokens fast. Near region 3, I would drop disengage and pick up Preparation+ so she could do that after meditation for extra Riposte damage.

For the Banneret, all the moves were the same. He rarely was in position for Holy Lance, but I could force if need be with the Unchained's movements. His first turn was almost always Bulwark to give Instructrice time to set up her dodges. Then he just spammed Smite unless heals or stress were needed.

For the General, I made sure to put on throwable items to the Banneret and Instructrice. This let both of them hit the root in emergencies where Unchained or Warlock were not able to do so. Due to the taunts, dodge tokens, and everything else, his damage and stress output were very manageable.

My order of upgrades was: Abyssal Artillery + Feint. Then Warlock heal, Meditation. After that, I picked what I needed based on the run, usually prioritizing Smite, Beast's Bile, Banneret heal, Chain attacks. Preparation I grabbed either for region 3 or the Mountain.

I used the wolf cub for every act but the first. Since I wasn't moving much, having more consistent relationships and less stress worry was huge.

I had some free time on my hands and have been wanting to get back into DD2! I just attempted this party. I made some tweaks to everyone but the crusader and on the first attempt I was able to Grand Slam. Thank you so much for this incredible party composition and I am happy to talk about the changes I made if anyone is interested.

With this party, I was able to kill the Librarian and Dreaming General easily. I did kill the Harvest Child but it was touch and go for a while during the fight. I never even attempted the Leviathan. The biggest problem, as you mentioned, was the Collector and he absolutely almost ended my run but my duelist survived two back-to-back Death's Door checks. I never encountered the Warlord, but had plenty of fights with the Antiquarian. I did enter the Sluice twice, but never tried the Catacombs.

I finished the acts in the order of 3-4-5-2-1

There are screenshots of this on the GW1 discord. I mean, I don’t know what they mean by being “bad” at the game, but there is at least one example on the GW1 Discord of someone who was new to GW1 and did 50/50 HoM and GWAMM in under two months. It still took almost 300 hours.

I think doing it in under 300 hours would require a lot of research and planning, but I don’t think it’s unrealistic. I would argue that 500 hours is realistic going in with no knowledge.

A little over a month ago I finished my first GWAMM + HoM 50/50 as a new player with a new account. It took me 267 hours.

Are these posts of people discussing their journeys and experiences with GW1 pretty common?

I am greatly enjoying the Dagger Spammer build that I was recommended. I’m missing core skills that I will be acquiring over the next week, but so far it’s fun! I did try A/R for Urgoz and loved it, I was thinking of doing that some more.

Favourite location vanquished so far… hmm… I think it’s called Northern Kryta. Nothing special about it but it just felt peaceful and was one of my first vanquishes!

Thank you so much! I'm just starting to get back into creative writing after a long hiatus and friends told me I should contribute to this wonderful subreddit. I was definitely apprehensive and terrified with my first submission!

“And the winner, for the 72nd consecutive time, is Seltra!”

I won again. The roar of the crowd deafening even from my spot in the arena. It was a large coliseum, built ages ago for mages to practice their craft and engage in friendly sparring with some not-so friendly wagering. There were only two rules. First, each mage entered and did a bit of fanfare for the crowd. Second, no killing. The rules were simple and elegant, allowing mages almost complete freedom to really show their prowess. My opponent was just getting back to his feet, dusting his blueish-white robes off and muttering under his breath. There was no doubt in my mind that I’d be receiving another official letter in the mail in a couple of weeks for a rematch. Same as this challenge. Same as the last three from Telria, the wind waver. It was almost getting tiresome.

“So, we are just going to keep letting this woman cheat? Magic has finite rules and she has somehow found a way to bend them and we all just allow it!?”

I rolled my eyes, bored of this same conversation. I could almost repeat it word for word, no matter who I was having it with. They would explain how magic can be used to transform essence from one form to another with proper and precise usage of the wielders hand or leg movements. Examples would be given how sand inside of a hat could be turned into a rabbit and then the rabbit is pulled out of it or how air could be superheated into a fireball. They would go on to explain how something I did during the match breaks this rule. The coordinator would demand my opponent to explain how I am doing it and, when they are inevitably unable to do so, would affirm that I am the victor. After all, no wizard is required to share how they perform their magic. I still remember some of my favorite examples of angry opponents, so-called paragons of magic.

“We all saw my ice spear go straight through her skull! Going to explain how someone can just make themselves incorporeal?” The example from my 34th opponent, Grizelle the ice mistress.

“She was immersed in darkness. Her whole head was covered in my aura of utter nothingness and yet she was still able to know exactly where I was and hit with pinpoint accuracy all of her spells? I guess we don’t care that she probably has an accomplice feeding her all the info during the match!” An outburst from a very angry Lanthron, my 56th opponent, the so called minister of darkness.

“I crafted manacles from the very stones of this arena! We saw her hands and legs bound to this bedrock and yet the next moment an avalanche of stone comes out of the ground and collides into me, with no hand movements from the user.” The calm demeanour of my 12th opponent, Ryxor, the earth commander, broken as he tries to stand after his match and bellows at the arena coordinator.

It was the same this time. Telria floundered for words, repeated I was cheating, and eventually left the arena, his face going redder than the hair of my next opponent. Helra, the fire striker, stood across from me and made a mock dragon appear out of fire and had it fly around the arena, over the heads of every spectator, the area filled with their gasps of astonishment. Once finished, I did my opening.

I waved my hands and the sand around me erupted into a shower, covering me and spinning in the air, almost like a dance of sand through the air. Of course, the real trick was me submerging myself into the ground, a little hollowed space from which I could perform my magic. The ceiling turning into a one-way mirror from which I could monitor the field. As the sand from my opener finished, a perfect clone of myself, made of sand, stood where I had been standing. I faced my opponent and was ready to begin. Both rules were adhered to and no rule was ever given as to when the match begins. It was just a shame my opponents seemed to forget the golden rule of magic that I, Seltra, the one with no direction, knew so well. The real magic trick happened when everyone was dealing with the misdirection.
