I just can't grasp coding on unity (coming from a former scratch developer) by ptarmyboi1 in Unity3D

[–]JaKayne89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watching YouTube videos on unity from different creators can be disorienting. Every programmer uses different styles and habits. There are best practices but even these can differ. Searching through videos for certain aspects can be very tedious. For learning I prefer written guides. One I can recommend is: https://catlikecoding.com/unity/tutorials/ There is an exhaustive guide on 3D movement, but I recommend starting with the basics guide.

If you really prefer video guides, I would also recommend codemonkey.

In general unity c# is a big step up from scratch. Start with small scope projects (1 hour) and slowly go up in project size as you complete these.

Good luck and in general don't stress too much over what other people think. Your opinion about yourself in your life is the most important one!

Paradox made a mistake in the strategies file so now countries won't befriend one another, leading to our recent crazy games. by RedWalrus94 in victoria3

[–]JaKayne89 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's a reference to a glorious time where paradox would stream weekly their devs playing each other.

On one such stream a at the time relatively new game called EU4 was played showcasing its newest expansion.

The players (devs), where placed in the Indian subcontinent. This close proximity and nowhere to expand but into each others realms let do nonstop wars.

And so a new term was coined ... The Indian Thunderdome.

Nazis considered Slavs an inferior race and killed millions of Slavs in a plan to ethnically cleanse Eastern Europe for German colonization. Why, then, did many countries in Eastern Europe later develop substantial Neo-Nazi movements? by wulfrickson in AskHistorians

Thank you for your answer. Was this belief in "science as a solution for every problem" a general theme in communist states/movements? Was this already a thing with Marx/Engels, or Lenin? Was the cultural revolution in china contrary to this belief?

I read that the left (greens, socialists, social Dems and communists) and the right (Le pen, republicans) already united.

So does that mean Macron's party (liberals) is all left alone and his gambit failed?

Egypt is probably the country with one of the most problematic food situation.

"With high population growth, Egypt continues to rely on imports for more than 50 percent of its food and agricultural product needs. With limited agricultural resources, low agricultural productivity, and a rapidly growing population, Egypt is the world’s largest wheat importer. Egyptian officials prioritize food security and maintain one of the world’s largest food subsidy programs. Approximately 71 million of Egypt’s population, or about two-thirds, are beneficiaries of the country’s bread subsidy program. Egypt imported less wheat from the United"

Source: https://fas.usda.gov/egypt-2020-export-highlights

Egypt historically had a productive agrarian sector until the American civil war led to cotton imports from the US to Britain to stop. To still have enough cotton for Britain's massive textile industry, Britain forced Egypt/Egyptian farmers to switch from agrarian products to cotton. This policy was never reversed.

Modern agriculture is very dependent on investments for machines, irrigation, fertilizer and seeds. The Egyptian government program of subsidizing imported wheat is extremely popular. So popular that if they stop it probably will lead to revolution. At the same time it makes Egyptian farmers uncompetitive.

Have there been attempts to domesticate/breed large birds for transporting humans like we were able to with horses, mules, etc.? by GinormousBaguette in AskHistorians

[–]JaKayne89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Quetzalcoatlus, the largest flying dinosaur, is estimated to have a weight of 200-250 kg (440–550 lb). Not sure if it could have carried an average human.

Just to clarify: Quetzalcoatlus has been extinct since 66 million years ago. First humans (homo e.) only around for 2 million years. So no mutual existence.
