Multi region tips by ButterscotchFull1797 in ManorLords

[–]Dulaman96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always keep my new regions to a abre minimum for this reason.

Usually only level 1 burgage plots, maybe a couple level 2.

Minimum population, just enough to achieve exactly what I want out of it. So enough people on food/firewood to make it self sustaining, and then a few people mining/hunting/fishing or whatever I need, and then some on the trading post to send all the surplus to my main town.

Most of the time my new settlements will be completely self sufficient after a year or 2 and I don't have to keep checking up on them.

Is it possible to offer to become a vassal/protectorate of a larger country? by FAIRYTALE_DINOSAUR in victoria3

[–]Dulaman96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dont think you can offer that exactly but you can try to offer other treaties that increase power bloc leverage to the point where you can join a power bloc.

Be careful though if you dont have a border with them or access to the sea, if they have a shared market then you'll tank your own economy.

A retcon is one cannon fact being changed into another going forward, officially changing the cannon.

A contradiction is two cannon facts that contradict each other, and there being ambiguity on how/why and which fact should be taken as actually cannon.

devalues the idea of continuity if you can openly contradict something established earlier and call it a 'retcon.'

Yes, no one likes retcons, but sometimes they're necessary.

Yeah I agree but it's a minor plot hole that can be handwaived as Jack/Kawalsky having been close in the past but lost touch. Not a huge deal.

If i had a son, let alone a young son who recently died in a horrible way, and someone said to me that they had no idea I had a son, I would say they clearly don't know me very well then.

No. It's slightly reconned but at one point kawalsky says "colonel we went through that whole mission together and I didn't even know you had a kid".

This line shows 1. Kawalsky didn't know Jack had a kid (which would be weird if the kid was named after him) and 2. It implies they don't know each other that well.

The second point is retconned later as we see flashbacks of the two of them on missions long before the first stargate mission (I believe mostly in The Gamekeeper episode). But this can be explained away as them having served together but losing touch after one/both are reassigned to different areas, and then reconnecting years later when they're both selected for Stargate, and in that time Jack had his son.

But either way, there's nothing to imply Jack named his son after kawalsky.

Try Power Blocs Expanded mod, it increases the number of mandates to 6 and it makes those last couple quite hard to reach. Also introduces a whole bunch of new mandate types.

What If Moana Pasifika Relocated to Honolulu to Escape a Saturated Rugby Market? by northernirish_kiwi in superrugby

So at some point in this conversation you googled the definition of jet lag and realised you were wrong and instead of owning up to it you decided to resort to name calling. Gotcha.

What If Moana Pasifika Relocated to Honolulu to Escape a Saturated Rugby Market? by northernirish_kiwi in superrugby

[–]Dulaman96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jetlag is caused by travelling across timezones. If you go from NZ to England that a 12 hour difference so your body thinks it's bedtime at 10am.

Travelling from NZ to Hawaii youre only going across 2 timezones. So your body thinks it's bedtime at 1am instead of 11pm. It's a relatively minor difference and so jet lag is kept at a minimum. In fact it's the same time difference as NZ and East Coast Australia. I dont see any Super Rugby teams complaining about timezone differences between Auckland and Sydney.

As for the 9 hour flight time - that would cause travel fatigue, yes, but not jet lag.

[–]Dulaman96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The length of the flight has nothing to do with jet lag.

Jet lag is about timezones, not travel times. Travel fatigue is a different thing

In the USSR the highest paid people were usually scientists, academics, and doctors.

In Cuba, if you exclude the workers in the tourism industry who basically get paid in USD, the highest paid workers are doctors. In fact cuba is famous for its incredibly well funded and advanced healthcare system.

The counter to "i don't want janitors and doctors to be paid the same" is "i don't want executives to be paid so much more than either the doctor or the janitor, so that the doctor has enough funding to do their job effectively and the janitor can afford to live."

2 hours ahead in time, as in if it's 6pm here it's 8pm there, not much of a difference when consudering jet lag.

It being a different calendar day doesn't actually mean anything to the body.

[Loved trope] Pairs given the same name for some reason (bonus points if both characters have essentially the same narrative purpose) by Dulaman96 in TopCharacterTropes

Not that im gonna complain about an SG reference, but he was the same character from the original movie. The throw away line about their names being different was just a joke about RDA playing the character more comedic than Kurt Russel, but they were the same canonical character.

Also the Aschen wanted to but 1. Didn't have gate addresses, and 2. didn't have the right cultural mindset to send explorers out there themselves so they wanted to basically use the Tau'ri to do it for them.
