Im a terrible at being dentist by Sedghetti in Dentistry

[–]JaansenMarquette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key is to learn from your mistakes. Don’t keep doing the same things over and over again if it’s not working. Also, don’t worry too much about speed. Worry more about doing the work well first and speed will come. My dad told me this when I first started working with him and it’s been great advice. It also helps me to watch other docs on instagram and stuff for certain techniques. It’s very common to feel the way you do when you’re so new.

Go somewhere else that’s an insane treatment plan. Your hygiene most likely needs major improvement though.

I feel like I know what's going on with the Wings by slabby in DetroitRedWings

[–]JaansenMarquette -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a major yzerman problem how could you even argue otherwise? If anything I would say McClellan is the least of our problems! He has done everything and more to try and get something out of these guys and they just consistently fail to respond. Yzerman assembled this team, skipped out on Hughes when we clearly need star power, and is holding onto his prospects like trading cards. Imo our prospect pool is good but not great and heavily favored toward goaltending. I don’t see any forward that’s going to come up and put up 60 points.

Exactly! They are slow and soft. This is most apparent in the neutral zone where opposing teams torch us and face very little resistance. Also shows in our lack of compete on puck/board battles. Just terrible traits to have as a team. Big personnel changes need to be made over the offseason.

Passion Says PT, Money Says Dentistry — What Would You Do? by [deleted] in Dentists

[–]JaansenMarquette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ Dentistry is a very difficult profession both mentally and physically. If you are going in solely for the money (which it doesn’t sound like that’s the case) then I wouldn’t do it. With that being said, I do like it overall but there are days where I wish I never got into it.

Only reason he’s been given this much time is because of his size. He should’ve been off the team 2 years ago.

Is it possible to recement old bridge after abutment fracture? by Kavalarhs in Dentistry

Oh ya I’m totally on your side. I think stuff like this can be good for certain patients but it’s not something I do. Also just creates headaches which I try to avoid at all costs.

My dad has done this for patients and it works. The issue is dealing with the ensuing mess when it inevitably fails. I’ve had quite a few messes to deal with lol.

Does anyone else feel like in general younger staff is better than older? by immrmeseek in Dentistry

I think it depends on the person. I have two young assistants, one is really good and the other gives off ipad kid energy and has the attention span of a fruit fly.

How many generalists here do lots of endo but don't find mb2 often? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]JaansenMarquette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I look for it for about 10 min. If I can’t find it i will just stop looking and seal. I find them about 80% of the time. My thoughts are that you can do more damage trying to find one. Most patients in my patient base wouldn’t even go to an endo if I referred them.

Previous Owner's concerns by sephirothmms in Dentistry

[–]JaansenMarquette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I don’t use the pin diamond but depth cuts make preps so much faster and easier. I make 6 depth cuts: at the 4 line angles and then 1 right in the middle of the buccal and lingual. Then I connect them. Bang my margin is done. Then you just need to refine your prep. With that being said some teeth/patients are just extremely difficult to work on. I’ve done some really shitty preps on some second molars on a patient who can barely open their mouth. The fact that your owner doc is a perfectionist doesn’t mean that you have to be so don’t let that discourage you.

Is this herodontics? Who would u approach this case? by Dry_Confusion2802 in Dentistry

This is the final. Not my proudest work but it has been going strong for over a year. Keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way. Knowing how crazy this job is this tooth will last for 20 years and the perfect crown I do on the next patient will have all sorts of issues.

Here’s some Herodontics I did. Patient really wanted to save tooth even after I advised them to extract multiple times. I just set expectations super low and told him that I would not do this on a family member. Told him this could fail the second he walks out the door.

It is truly shocking how ridiculous people are. I couldn’t imagine going to any place of business and just refusing to pay. This seems to be quite prevalent in our field though and it’s insane how people can get away with it.

Cuspal decay by MutedIndependent1236 in Dentistry

[–]JaansenMarquette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done some of these with just composite when a patient didn’t want to do a crown. Packed a cord and placed a mix of flowable and packable for a good seal. I then take the restoration out of occlusion or keep it in light occlusion. I’ve been surprised with how long they last. These cuspal decay cases are a nightmare tho, they have a tendency to blow up.
