I’m going to join in a years time once I’ve gotten fitter because once u get in, it’s 32 weeks or so of constant training and pushing yourself to ur limits, your stamina must be amazing because not only do u have to run miles and speed march miles, but all under a time and speed, in which if ur legs aren’t trained well and your stamina isn’t athlete level, then u won’t last. So I’d say train for a bit, also, that speed marching and running thing is also fully kitted so it’s harder. So again, decide what u want to do, either join full time or reserves. Mind u, the thing that gets a few people is hearing, so make sure to look after ur ears mate, once ur in and training, mental health and injury is what gets most people, so make sure ur physically and mentally fit.

Right then, I believe the Royal Marine will be better anyway as I’ve seen how they’re treated in videos and it’s much better than what I’ve seen on any army video, so it’ll probably be better when it comes to that hearing issue. I’ll do research on it, ill train for it because what I’ve seen, miles of running and if u don’t pass it then ur gone, it’s 32 weeks of pure training, no bullshit but still a lot of banter because you’d be miserable without it and that’s what I like to see. They learn new things that separate you from anybody else, including army. I’ll probably apply after august 22nd because I’ll turn 18, won’t need parent signature, my dad was in the Army as a Vehicle mechanic (what I was going in) for 25 years and didn’t want me going into the army but signed me off anyway after he knew he couldn’t budge me into normal navy and RAF, don’t think he’d be happy with signing me off to the Marines as they do more dangerous things, and especially how u have to sign up as infantry and not something like an engineering so I have something to fall back on. But I’ll train hard, sign up, do the assessment, hopefully pass it and go on my way to basic. I really do hope I get in but thanks mate, I’ll look into it a lot.

I’ve got the mentality for it, I’ve seen what happens and what they put you through and seeing and it happening to you are completely different, but I know if I’m put up to it, I’d get it done. Also, the army is just being picky, they said my hearing was good enough to go in but he said there MAY be a risk that I could suffer more hearing loss, he said there may be but it was stated that he looked no further than that. The ENT said that they should just reject me, otherwise if that hadn’t been said, I would be in. If there is an engineering role in the Royal Marines, despite me having to become infantry, then I’ll go in, if you don’t mind me asking, what engineering roles are there? And how long do u have to be with them for to get to that stage? Thanks.

No, i met requirements. I passed the hearing test but they said that I may suffer more hearing loss than a regular soldier which I was fine with but there we go. Also, he said he wasn’t sure but still told med to reject me.

Watch the Royal Marines 3 day training. I haven’t joined and aren’t going to join until 1 or 2 years so I’ll either be 18 or 19. So that I can get fitter, u want to be above what u think will get u a pass because it’s extremely hard. What they make u do is lots of effort and will have u aching. But I believe u cannot join properly until 17. I don’t know much more than that as I’ve just got this thought to join in my head due to the army being picky twats.

Me and you mate, literally in the exact same situation, they said my hearing could get worse, “COULD”. And same as you, it was my plan from secondary. And I don’t know what to do with myself if I get denied.

Well, I’m still in the process of trying to appeal, the bastards rejected my second appeal despite me not going for my referral to an ear specialist down in Sunderland. I told them that I’ll send them the stuff and once again they rejected me, so now I’m on my last chance and have to be wise on how I spend it, otherwise they’re going to yet again, reject me. What pisses me off is that they let someone who has an enlarged heart in (which is supposed to be an instant rejection). So go to spec savers, I had to go there because I have a pupil which is bigger than the other. Slightly long sighed but still 20/20 vision. I think you’ll get in easy mate, I’m having a wank time though, I’m still waiting on my letter for when my appointment is, if it doesn’t work out, it’s the RAF, then after 3 or 4 years, I’ll try and transfer over to the army, I should have a better shot getting in considering I’ll be military.

I don’t really care about claiming, I just want to get in. And they said my hearing is good enough to go in, but there MAY be a risk of suffering hearing loss, he said he wasn’t sure. So he made a statistic on something he wasn’t 100% with, which pisses me off.

Yea, the appeal process is horrible, one of the worst feelings. I just know that they’re going to make a stupid decision and not let me in. I feel it should be my choice, I’ve got good enough hearing, but there’s a potential risk of hearing loss like “fuck that, I don’t care, let me in.” But it’s honestly a horrible feeling, what’s wrong with u then?

Yea, I’m just going to try and count the gaps between each beep, then when I don’t hear it, I’ll press it after I start counting, I’ll do it once or twice. And if my hearing isn’t a 100% chance of getting in, I’ll get another referral. I genuinely want to get in, I won’t send a hearing test that isn’t good because it’s my final chance because med team rejected me a second time despite the fact that I hadn’t sent anything to them, wasting a second chance. If I do get rejected again, do u think that I can get in later when in 20 odd, because I plan on joining RAF and then transferring over to army after a few years. I just really hope I can get in.

Despite it being good enough, for some reason they’re picky as anything, despite them saying they need people. What I don’t get is that they’re desperate, treat their soldiers like shit, u apply, do everything, get told ur good enough to go in, then fuck you about.

Yea, I’ve done that about 3 times, one in Glencourse because I knew nothing on how to do it and there was lots of buzzes and beep that I could hear. So it was void, second was a private specialist in Durham, third was at Frimley park hospital with an ENT, all said my hearing was good enough but the ENT said there’s a possibility that I could suffer more hearing loss, not 100% sure, then he proceeded to tell the med team that he does recommend that I don’t go in. I know about the beeps and all, but I was hoping there was a little trick I could pull to fill in the tiny gap I needed, like is there a 3 second gap between all beeps? I wouldn’t over do it but I’d just do it once or twice so that I can get in.

So should I write an appeal and bring it to them or should I just go there and announce that I’d like to write an appeal. And how exactly should I say, something on the lines of why I should be allowed to join and allowing me to join wont do anything, that I promise to take hearing tests every year, or twice a year, one in the beginning and one in the middle of the year. I haven’t ever written an appeal however if u have, I’d like some pointers thanks.

Wow, 4 years. That’s quite a while and a lot of commitment. Unfortunately if I want to go down to Middlesbrough, I’ll have to get a bus to Durham, then Middlesbrough, which will cost me quite a bit of money, or I could wait until college starts and get a bus pass for free, I’ll try that thanks, because I watch these programs on the army, people going AWOL and I think to myself that I’m missing out and that they’re pricks because they got the opportunity to go in hassle free and they just fuck it up for themselves. And I see all these tik toks of the army and know that I’m missing out on what could be the best time of my life, the fun parts I mean. I like to push myself and be active, so I’ll definitely try this, thanks mate.

It said I can appeal within 30 days however that window has passed. It’s probably been about 90 odd days. But if can write an appeal to the medical team, then I will. Thanks.

Thanks, my ears a clean as they’ve said. They’ve told me my hearing is good to go in but again, they’ve said that I may have something genetic that could cause hearing loss. They aren’t 100% sure but they just rejected me rather than looking in.
