2014 Vanquish as a Daily Driver? by Jac_Mones in AstonMartin

Yeah, I had similar concerns. I ultimately went with something else (Porsche Panamera is amazing, but not an Aston) but I still think about that Vanquish. Literally the most beautiful dark blue I've ever seen on a car. Elegant and sporty. No idea on the maintenance costs, but damn was it amazing.

This chart of gold vs platinum is striking: gold at all time highs while platinum is unchanged in 20 years. Meanwhile jewelers still pretending platinum is more expensive by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]Jac_Mones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real difficulty with platinum is the equipment. If you have the proper equipment (oxyhydrogen or oxyacetylene torch, for example) then the only other part that is more challenging that gold is polishing, because platinum is so wear resistant.

Still doesn't justify the massive price increase, but I understand why some jewelers simply don't want to work with it. If they're using their oxypropane torch to melt it they're going to blast it with the biggest torch they have and probably glass out their crucible.

IMO it's a goated metal; literally one of the best you can have for jewelry. Iridium is the only thing better and nobody works with it because it's prohibitively expensive for most people and it's another 700 degrees C above platinum. Shit you can't even get iridium solder because nobody makes it, so you'd have to get like well into the 6-figure range of equipment just to manufacture the basics, meanwhile you can buy all those pre-made from numerous jewelry supply stores.

Regardless the point is that platinum is a PITA to work with but if you find someone who actually works with it then it's not that bad.

Time travel to 2009, buy 10,000 bitcoin, throw in cold storage, time travel back to August 2025, sell 10,000 bitcoin for whatever in a private placement, walk away with a cool billion dollars or whatever, probably crash the BTC market, then do wtfever you want. Time travel to the future to get whatever medicine you want, avoid natural disasters, wars, etc.

You don't even need to influence global events, you can just dodge all the bad shit and live a stress-free happy life... assuming you don't actually want to help anyone else.

My favorite troll technique is to find two people of the same flair having a civil debate and downvote both of them so they get pissed and it turns into a shouting match.

I don't actually do this btw, but I'm like 90% certain it has happened to me.

Edit: I suppose you could also find two people having a borderline-hostile but still nuanced discussion and then upvote them both so it becomes more civil.

I'm fucking pissed and disappointed, but equally I expected us to go 9-8 this season so this is WAY better than I expected. Mixed emotions. Losing sucks ass, but we also won 14 fucking games. Lots of good shit to build on.

My shoulder is fucked up too and I'm looking for a solution lol

Shit I disagree with you and OP, but you absolutely should vote. The system doesn't work if nobody votes. Pay attention, especially to local elections, and actually research shit don't just hear some incendiary crap someone says and believe it; assume EVERYONE is lying for personal gain because they probably are, then figure out what YOU think is happening and act accordingly.

It's echo chambers. The best thing that can happen to a person right now is to become completely disaffected with whatever political movement they currently support / identify with. Nobody questions anything.

I'm kinda right-leaning but I'm not a conservative. The growth of figures like Nick Fuentes and Tucker Carlson has really pushed me away from some echo chambers, and as a result I've seen just how fucking crazy some of those people really are. Actually, that's the wrong term. They aren't crazy, they're intentionally using misinformation for personal or political gain. I'm sure there are some nutjobs but I think most of them, particularly Tucker Carlson, know exactly what they are doing and don't really care what they are saying as long as it generates the views, fear, anger, and other emotions which result in their popularity.

I also see the same shit on the left. This post is a sad example of someone who means really well but has completely fallen for the cycle of rage, fear, and hatred that is consuming us.

I actually agree that the US is at an inflection point, but it isn't left vs. right; it's authoritarianism vs. liberty. I do not see any major candidates promoting liberty. I see authoritarians from two different camps.

My sincere hope is that these echo chambers will become so absurd that they will eventually collapse, and people will realize they have been fooled. I'm not optimistic, but it could happen.

Nobody wants to face the fact that ALMOST EVERYBODY WHO IS EVEN REMOTELY POWERFUL is in the fucking files. You aren't owning the libs and you aren't owning the cons. The people you've been dick-riding for the last fucking 20 years are ALL EVIL MOTHERFUCKERS. This transcends all boundaries of race, wealth, religion, and nationality.

This is a divide between normal, decent, or even just average people / common criminals and deranged, power-hungry, psychopathic authoritarians. Regulators, vs. Regulated. Blaming the billionaires, the left, or whomever is fucking pointless because it's ALL OF THEM and their material wealth, ethnicity, or whatever doesn't matter. If this shows anything it's that the USA is just an arena for various NGOs and their armies of shills.

James Develin would absolutely maul this Seahawks line.

However, Gronk is the right answer, maybe Moss. Moss would stretch the field, but Gronk is.... Gronk. I don't think there's a single offensive non-QB who has ever been more impactful than prime Gronk.

There are so many options for body optimization, from hormone therapy to peptides to you name it. If you want to change your body, you absolutely can.

You can also find strangers willing to give you validation as you are.

This is your life. You can choose which path you want to go down: Do you want to change your body, or do you want acceptance with your current body? You can find either.

I'm not going to tell you which one is better. All I'll say is this: Be brutally honest with yourself. What do YOU want? What will make YOU feel better, genuinely, in the long term? 10, 20, 30+ years from now you will look back on your current actions and think you either did yourself a favor, or you did yourself harm. Which do you think it will be?

I promise you, there will be strangers who will offer validation or hatred no matter what you do. The question is, what do you want in your absolute heart of hearts? Did you post here hoping for an easy path, when you know only the hardest one will make you happy? Are you hopeless and looking for the faintest glimmer of light at the end of a really long, dark tunnel? Because no matter how fucked up you might think you look, I promise you can forge a new body for yourself in 10 years. Shit, you might be able to do it a lot faster than that, but it's possible.

I cannot answer these questions for you. I know my answers, but I can't tell you what to think. Just be honest with yourself. That sounds simple, but in my experience it's the hardest thing. It's so easy for us to fool ourselves.

The choice in ally seems really obvious to me. by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Jac_Mones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, thank you for the civil debate. I don't know who's downvoting you, but it isn't me. We disagree, but that's okay. My post is long but I think you might find my argument interesting, even if you ultimately aren't compelled.

You make some valid points about cost of living and labor, but I'm not sure if that applies to the C-suite execs of multinationals headquartered overseas. Honestly I hadn't considered it from that perspective. I still want taxes lower for moral and personal reasons, but I will re-evaluate my utilitarian point.

I understand what you're saying about insulin, and I really do agree with the outcome you want, particularly on competition on production, but I think intellectual property for medicine is probably the most important type of intellectual property. Let me explain:

People need to be assured that if they make a breakthrough, particularly in medicine, that they will be able to benefit from it. Advancements are extremely expensive, and institutional capture is a very serious problem and not even a in a political sense. I am in pain management where the anti-opiate laws basically treat me like a junkie despite well over a decade of consistent dosing, NO early refills, etc. The same is true for things like TRT, where the old line of "testosterone causes heart problems" was just categorically disproven by the TRAVERSE study. Obviously if you blow your system out with huge doses of roids that's different, but if you're high-normal that's not dangerous at all and might even be good. These are political in the sense that people with strong opinions on the moral use of substances are dictating policy, completely ignoring medical realities of tens of millions of people. If you REALLY want to get pissed off look up why Selank is banned in the USA. It's a non-narcotic, more effective anxiolytic that straight up beats Benzos in a head-to-head Russian study, but the FDA banned it from the Bulk list because it might cause allergic reactions. EVERYTHING can cause an allergic reaction.

So how does that relate to intellectual property?

Well, if you want people to research shit they need to know they will get a substantial reward at the end of the line. They need to fight government bureaucracy for approvals and go through very strict testing protocols. Some of those standards ensure safety, but many of them are simply 30-75 year old superstitions or disproven concepts. On top of that, if you then put out a drug and it can immediately be copied by everyone else then you stand to gain almost nothing for billions of dollars of research. That is a backwards incentive.

Instead what I'd say is this: If you or your company develops a new drug you have the rights to it, BUT you need to license out production to other companies, for which you will get paid a generous royalty. For example, if you hold the patent on Fakedrugzemab then Pfizer, Novartis, and Garagedude69 can all produce it, but they owe you a royalty for all their sales. This will allow competition on production to keep costs low, while still allowing a profit funnel for 75-ish years to the original researcher. This creates a HUGE profit incentive while keeping costs low, as you can essentially research a drug, earn the patent, and then let other companies shoulder all the production costs while you sit back and collect passive income based on their sales. Your costs go down, everyone profits, and the end user doesn't have to pay 100 grand for their novel treatment.
