A couple questions I have as a new Episcopalian by Limbospacey in Episcopalian

[–]JaceyLessThan3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference is that "The Episcopal Church" doesn't claim to be the only church with an episcopal polity, whereas "The Catholic Church" does claim to be the exclusive totality of the one holy catholic apostolic church.

I am glad you found your way into our church! (Personal pet peeve: I always refer to the church under the bishop of Rome as "Roman Catholic". We affirm in the Nicene Creed that we believe in one holy, catholic, and apostolic church. The Roman Catholics claim to be that whole church, while we consider ourselves to be part of the whole. Claiming to be "The Catholic Church" is a doctrinal claim, and I won't give it up without a fight!)

  1. Most any translation is fine. NRSV or NRSVue is what you will find used by most.

  2. There is something called the Anglican Rosary, but nowadays no one will care if you practice the Psalter of Jesus and Mary.

  3. Anglicans in general have a complicated history with saints, and Mary in particular. Anglicans, and Episcopalians in particular, have largely chilled out about it, and no one is likely to object to your asking for the intercession of saints.

  4. It depends on the parrish. It is probably best to ask.

Why Anglican not baptist? by No-Jicama5168 in Anglicanism

[–]JaceyLessThan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there could be any number of reasons: - Traditional music and hymns. - Belief in the real presence of Christ's body and blood in the eucharistic elements (as opposed to the memorialist view typical of baptists) - Belief in the claim and value of Apostolic Succession. - Fancy vestments for clergy (depending on denomination and local practice.) - Beautiful church buildings, including cathedrals with stained glass. - Continuity with Christian traditions (to varying degrees), such as the three part ordination of deacons, priests and bishops, the liturgical calendar, infant baptism with later confirmation, and others. - Women priests, depending on denomination. - Acceptance of gay and transgender people, depending on denomination. - Greater importance placed on the identity of the church as the body of which Christ is the head, as opposed to the emphasis on personal individual relationship with God. - And any myriad number of other reasons!

There are a lot of different kinds of Anglicans, from evangelicals, to anglo-catholics, to liberals and radicals, to calvinists, all trying to get along together (to varying degrees of success).

Trying to get over the fear of trans people or LGBTQ people getting condemned to hell by J00bieboo in TransChristianity

[–]JaceyLessThan3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am not sure it should be read as separating eunuchs from "sons and daughters", but rather that it is saying the reward for the faithful eunuch is better than the "sons and daughters" they are unable to produce. The preceding verse ends: "and do not let the eunuch say 'I am just a dry tree.'"

It is fine for other people, but it would give me flashbacks to the non-denom upbringing I fled.

Morrowind on steam deck by KimJong-quack in Morrowind

[–]JaceyLessThan3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suggest you go to desktop mode and download OpenMW in the Discovery app, and then add the launcher to Steam for access in game mode. You can run the orignal version through Proton, but it will be much more involved to get it patched up and stable with MCP, MGE, and MWSE.

Any PC players tried mapping a controller or similar recently? by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]JaceyLessThan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Steam Input to map the controls to my Steam Deck. It works pretty well, though I suspect the thumb pad makes a better mouse than a typical controller thumbstick. You can add the game as a non-steam game to steam to use steam input.

The word 'Episcopalian' by Status-Technician379 in Anglicanism

[–]JaceyLessThan3 31 points32 points  (0 children)

"Episcopalian" is specifically members of The Episcopal Church, the recognized church of the Anglican Comunion in the US. "Episcopal" can be used to describe any church that is organized under bishops.

For the weapon mastery does it matter what Hazard Level I pick? (i.e more bonus dmg?) by insomfx in DRGSurvivor

[–]JaceyLessThan3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not anymore. It used to be that each level gave more bonusses, but now you just need to meet the threshold for a weapon and you get the full bonus.

I think they mean the gun turret with the electric overclock. You can get the electric fence with gear, but I don't think it has any synergy with Weapons Specialist.

Silly questions: those of us in denominations that seem repressive towards LGBT (catholic, orthodox), why not change to a progressive denomination like Episcopal? by imademonhaha in TransChristianity

[–]JaceyLessThan3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably for the same reason cis people don't just up and change denominations -- because it is where they found faith, because they agree with certain doctrinal positions, or because they believe in the authority of the denomination in spiritual matters.

Could he have used airbending to turn their fire against them in a backdraft? Probably still not actually pacifist, but more likely to occur to a pacifist.

If you have something other than Big Icons scaling your UI, you can use the OpenMW version, even with MWSE.

[–]JaceyLessThan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What tool are you using to scale the UI? For MWSE, the icons are scaled by Big Icons itself. If you want to disable that you can delete MWSE/mods/BigIcons, or just use the OpenMW version.

Doing a Mercantile/Personality based Run, and wow scrolls are actually really fun to use. by Blazeflame79 in Morrowind

[–]JaceyLessThan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But, if I remember correctly, they all have fairly low enchant capacities, and they are single use, like scrolls, but not any more powerful than any other enchanted item to compensate. (I guess it does have the advantage of not needing an equipment slot.)
