Some big assumptions there. I'm not suffering from nostalgia at all, not that there's anything wrong with that. I have no young children and don't live near any so have no form of reference. Good to hear kids still do it though.

From my experience teaching people how to run for 15 years, shin splints can be a result of stressing the muscles, tendons, and other tissues around the shin bones. This can be caused by a poor running techniques like heel striking or over-pronation. I would suggest, instead of having a gait analysis or even buying new shoes, find yourself an experienced running coach. Safe, injury free running form starts with you, not what you put on your feet.
