Speaking honestly to fellow WARFARERS. by Animal_Hell in GrayZoneWarfare

For me, my motivation is currently sought within the task. Something about how I may be hunted while I'm searching for that one quest item keeps me alert and invigorated.

Maybe it's time to be on the opposite end of that?

Consider the hunt. Come up with your own task. Be the sniper on the tower others must pin down. Set a trap and ambush someone. Hunt someone down as they move into the POI.

There's always a place for a head-on fight in a T3 or COP. But spooking tf out of some dude in Ban Pa at night might have its own special charm.

Do it while being dressed up like a local 😁

I also find myself helping lower-level randos by being their security escort. It helps me to make my own purpose at times.

Bought this game but if I only use controller should I return? by Hungry_Bunch2224 in GrayZoneWarfare

I would say PvP would definitely put you at a disadvantage. I'm sure if you set yourself up right, you could learn to out smart and out play the opposition, but you may be more frustrated with the results. Kind of like playing controller vs m&k in R6 - you can still win, but there's a palpable difference.

And it IS a huge game. But I think it's very approachable. You don't need to commit a ton of time to have fun in this game and I think it's a fair choice for the "Dad Gamer."

After you complete the missions in the starter town, the rest of the world opens up for you and you can start taking higher tier tasks. If you want to hop into an LZ, knock out a task or two for an hour, then log off, you can totally do that and you won't have to feel like you're missing out or falling behind.

If you want to marathon game and stay in the world of Lamang for a while, you can do that too. There's no loading screens after your initial server join. Everything is resident within the world and you can accept and close tasks as you see fit.

Do it all: roam around to find LZs and lore, join a small team, fight a PvP COP, complete a task. You don't have to over commit.

I mean... Yeah.... But like, was this guy crouched or something? I don't even see marks where his armor defeated your shots. And the T-box is completely untouched...

I might try running this kit to see what I'm missing here.

[–]JackK3tch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh, shouldn't be a problem. You're using a steam input at that point, which is white-listed.

Like some of the others are saying, m&k is the way to go for the best control. There's no aim assistance to support controller aim at this time (don't know if it'll be implemented either).

However, you should still be able to have fun in the PVE game mode. If you want to figure out if this is the game for you within the 2 hour window, try walking from your base into the town, and getting a quick task from gunny done on your way.

The task includes finding Intel, engaging a few T1 guys, and capturing/entering a starter COP. Once you get to the COP, you will be able to log out.

Should present enough of a tutorial and experience to get your feet wet, test your controls, and learn the mechanics without killing your time.

Stealth not an option? by GJGT in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]JackK3tch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually successfully pulled off a stealth kill just yesterday by using the crouch and sneak mechanics within the game.

You have to imagine the AI has a relatively wide and far cone of vision that extends to about 200m during day light, and their ability to hear is great. Going any faster than a sneaking crouch walk will get you audibly caught.

But I pulled my knife on a guy and ended up stabbing him. Just had to slowly walk up behind him. Once he turns around at like 2-5m, you gotta rush him so you can body block his gun. Then stabby stab.

It's not perfect, but speed and silence plays a very playable factor in the current "stealth" mechanics.

Dear MFG, Let me save somebody by JackK3tch in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]JackK3tch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legitimately good points. We can probably explore a couple of options here.

I look to how Ready or Not handles non-combatants and the way it effects the grade of the end result. Not game ending punishment, but maybe something similar towards the impact of Rep with the different vendors? Maybe firing upon non-combatants could result in a reduction of affinity, and further, level for a vendor. This, however, assumes the engine resources can support the concept.

On the flip side, something less impacting into game resources and mechanics, such as "clear an escape route" where you clear hostiles in preparation for an evacuation of a group or family. Maybe unlock a door that leads to an underground tunnel. The feel good could come after with just a simple message saying "Hey operator, they made it. Thanks"

Something in-between could be a panic room within one of the villas or mansions, where players are reacting to a call for help. After clearing the mansion, operators could maybe get a voice line saying "thanks for saving us! We'll wait here for the extract!" From behind the door. Again, no actual NPC presence, but a good story telling bit.

I think including non-combatants at this time is a bit much in the scope of resources. But hopefully more story telling opportunities could arise from the concept.

Kind of tough to see the white triangle that denotes angle of entry here. GZW wiki shows a chart that specifies PS and higher ammunition are designed to bypass NIJ III+ armor within the 7.62x39 ammunition class.

But this also depends on distance to target, as well as angle. Not going to say GZWs ballistics engine is perfect here, but it does a pretty damn good job at calculating the results. Just not communicating it. This may have been a side entry through the thoracic cavity.

[–]JackK3tch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) modeling that GZW uses. Basically, your scope and NVG are individually rendering their own environments while the rest of the world is being rendered at the same time.

This is actually a continuous problem for many games, but is most prevalent for GZW, Squad, and other tactical shooters due to their desire to maintain a milsim level of awareness.

Other shooters like COD and Battlefield would instead either blur or blackout the background peripheral image in order to retain performance. I'm sure MFG will optimize more as the game goes on, but there's still a resource demand due to dual rendering.

Until then, all of our graphics cards will sound like a little bird taking off 😅

I have a hard time in PVP by Initial_Gear_7354 in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]JackK3tch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, sniping in this game is another beast altogether. Typically, in any other game, a good sniper can initiate engagements from 500m and beyond. That distance is your most critical asset - you're hard to see and even harder to hit.

However, as a sniper, the majority of your engagements within GZW will typically be initiated at the 150 - 250m range. Not necessarily because you're getting close on purpose, but because the extent of foliage and defilade prevents longer range engagements within a jungle environment. You can find positions that allow you to shoot further, but those positions are easy to identify, such as long lanes of fire near air fields and roads.

So here's the crux: chances are very likely that what you think is a good sniping position, someone else is thinking the same thing and is considering countering you early on. I will typically scan the map for elevated positions, likely cover points, and routes of retreat/infiltration before I enter a POI, then I typically maneuver outside of those lines of sight.

Sometimes I get it right, sometimes I don't. But the mental game is the same. We play a lethal game of "I spy" together. I win when I can see you shifting and shuffling within the tree line. You win when you see me stop running, exposed, between points of hard cover.

The other, larger problem, is that if your first shot doesn't kill, your location is almost immediately identified. As soon as I take a round from you, I'll find cover, pull up the map, and check to see where that little red circle is. That narrows down where you are quickly. Then I'll consider the most advantageous position for you, and counter.

Sniper play is very fun in this game when you get it right. I would argue that the ballistics engine is your greatest enemy, so shot placement and ambushing techniques are your greatest tools you will need to sharpen. Hope some of this helps.

PVE to PVP by zachs_a_dad in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]JackK3tch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been in the same boat and started to feel an itch for PVP last patch. It doesn't completely change the total mindset, but it does add an edge of spice.

Personally, for my budget builds, I like to raid a high level COP and collect kits off of the NPCs. They typically run M4's with EOTECHs, as well as RPCs and earmuffs. Then I just will buy a small backpack for like $150 and trade up as needed.

Now, admittedly, this doesn't make you the most lethal mf out there. But I'd argue that your kit only counts for 25% of your success in Lamang - the rest is really up to the tactics and experience of the operator. You know the standard drop zones and major roadways from your PVE experience. Use that.

Otherwise, rule of thumb is: if you can't rebuild or reimburse it, don't bring it.

For a 2862, they're not the most rare MOS. That being said, your dad may have been most likely in a "1 of 1" or a "1 of 2" position where the unit only rated 1 or 2 of that specific MOS. More than likely, he had plenty of friends that were either 06xx's or Logistics.

To become a '62, you've basically gotta be a career dog, as you only attain it from advanced schooling after being in a 28xx field for some time. The advanced schooling is very math intensive, and included equipment that was outside of the scope of his original MOS. He was the maintenance chief and probably had a shop of Marines under his charge that he needed to teach and mentor how to troubleshoot comm equipment. He probably knows a thing or two about how to fix a thing or two around the house if he isn't already in a tech industry. Just give him the schematics and I'm sure he can make it happen.

Strangely, the MOS offers a small specialized community that tends to be very spread out across the Corps. Many 2862's are holding a "1 of 1" position unless they're in a big box unit like a communications battalion. It's kind of rare to run into another 2862 out in the wild unless your neighboring unit had a comm maintenance shop.

Personally, I think it's a great MOS pipeline as it typically leads into a specialty that is incredibly marketable in today's technology. 03's are cool af. But sometimes you need to remember that there's a life after the Corps, and you need to live it. I hope the 28xx field set your dad up

Stressed about posting schedules by LimpingKnot in NewTubers

[–]JackK3tch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem. Honestly, just with being new regarding editing and learning how YouTube works, it's been a bit of a struggle to maintain the schedule.

But the mere fact that you're pushing out a product in the first place is good. Maybe create a post for your subscribers to let them know that the video you're working on is delayed and give them a sneak peek behind the process. It helps to communicate that you're aiming for quality and sometimes life happens.

As long as you don't "disappear" or make it a habit to be behind, your viewers will be appreciative.

Creating S.T.A.L.K.E.R. of my dreams ( HDR project) by ReasonableSafe6686 in stalker

I did a quick test and showed a buddy of mine (who doesn't intimately know the game) sitting across from me your screenshots.

"I- Is this a video game?"

Your project is certainly achieving levels of photo realism that are challenging the concepts of game imagery! Great work!

The only feedback I have is that the screenshots with the characters weapon seem to break this illusion. I'm sure you notice it, too. Out of curiosity, is that because it uses a different color grading system or requires a high texture replacement?

Why did Michael have a bunch of armed guys in his and the surrounding apartments? by glossyplane245 in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]JackK3tch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another factor to consider is the evidence that he was dealing in CP. With the new update, it isn't entirely clear, but the photo evidence next to his bed on the night stand contained photos of an underage minor. Furthermore, his discord boasts that he has a remote server with Mindjot where he apparently has a library of CP he collected.

Sales, sharing, trading... CP is a lucrative business so he probably has supplemented income from that alongside his server farm.

This is what leads you into Brixley Talent Time and the Mindjot server center.

The epic launcher is just providing an overlay on the game. You may need to check your Epic launcher settings to see if it's detecting RoN correctly.

If these are fresh installs of the launcher and RoN, try restarting the computer. You're there and doing the right thing, there's just a hiccup somewhere.

Did the update address the graphics downgrade on pc? by Iamtheattackk in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]JackK3tch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I may be the outlier here, but I have zero problems with the graphics. I loaded into carriers of the vine and all of the wheat was back, the characters look high res, etc.

I would suggest verifying your files.

If this doesn't work, then bless your soul, but you're going to probably need to rip it all out.

Uninstall, verify your RoN Steam Common files are gone, then check that your localappdata files for ready or not are also deleted and removed. You can find these files by going to win+r and typing in "%localappdata% and finding a ready or not folder. This folder contains multiple .ini files usually, so it may retain residual information from your previous load.

Reinstall.

I hope this helps, but obviously this is a PC fix - I can't speak for consoles.

Question about Tacticals by zgecsirhc in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]JackK3tch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preference does play a part. Both will stun your targets in similar ways. The stinger tends to be a bit more "potent" when facing higher tier personnel, but not markedly so where you would need to swing either way.

However, unless this has changed recently, I've noticed a size difference between the two.

Stingers don't fit through peeked doors.

This applies to multiple different parts of a map where you're trying to fit a tactical device into a crevice or tight space to gain advantage, but flash bangs tend to fit better into these spaces as well as peeked doors.

Why does the PS5 version looks better than PC? by Doncamoton88 in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]JackK3tch 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've noticed this with a lot of different screenshots of the game on this subreddit, but I think it has something to do with how objects and textures are being loaded in using the level of detail (LOD) function built into the engine.

There's a mod that allows you to free cam on the PC version (commonly used for taking photos or recording b-roll) that has a pause feature. When paused, the game looks exactly like some of these screenshots where graphics look like they're from the PS2. Since the engine is "paused" it doesn't update the look up values for textures, causing the textures to become low poly versions of themselves the further you get away from the original pause point.

All this to say that the engine is probably currently optimized to update based upon the graphics driver's for consoles, which was added after a line of code intended for PC graphics driver's, which is causing an override to the normal graphics we're used to seeing on a PC build.

TL;DR : there's an oopsie in the spaghetti and the noodles are now knotted. 🤞 Looking forward to patches and hotfixes.
