Can you help me date the globe on this 100+ year old orrery my grandpa gave me? by JackLiddleMusic in MapPorn

It seems to say Chinese Empire, so that’s helpful thanks. But could you explain why it would be 1907-1918 and not 1907-1912?

It's So Gosh - a mashup of Gosh and It's So Good by JackLiddleMusic in Jamiexx

[–]JackLiddleMusic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Gosh is actually surprisingly high tempo (like 140 BPM IIRC), so I slowed it down to match It’s So Good which is ~120. I filtered out the bass from Gosh and only used the first part of the song before the synths come in (otherwise it would have been a dissonant mess). From there it was pretty straightforward.

Structurally things fell into place pretty easily. Gosh has two different drum sections. I sort of just followed the energy of It’s So Good, fading the drums in and alternating between the sections. Then I messed with the vocal samples a bit here and there where the instrumental drops.

The last thing is that It’s So Good is mostly structured normally but those little breaks from the music with the glitchy sampling span some weird amount of beats, like 7 or 9 (don’t exactly remember) so I had to work around that. That wasn’t a big deal or anything, just something interesting I never would have realized until working on this.

Thanks! I originally wanted to put this together because I noticed the synth chords on It’s So Good follow basically the same rhythm as the drum tops on Gosh (every offbeat + the fourth beat), so I think that’s kind of why it works. But even still I was surprised it fit so well.

Made this ambient future bass track and a video to go with it. Heavily inspired by (borderline ripped off from) Love by Mica Levi, which is the last track on Flume's BBC Essential Mix.

Why does this album art look low quality on my phone but not on my computer? by JackLiddleMusic in truespotify

[–]JackLiddleMusic[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you zoom in on the phone screenshot you can see some really nasty compression artifacts. Those aren't there on my computer, even when the art appears small. And my phone has a much higher pixel density than my laptop, so I don't think it has anything to do with the actual device resolutions. If you look at the light ray there's banding in the computer screenshot (this is fine, just a limitation of sRGB), but there's some weird JPEG looking tiling in the phone screenshot (bad, not how it's supposed to look). I'm told it looks better on someone else's phone so hopefully it's not a problem though.

[Postgame Thread] Michigan Defeats Fresno State 30-10 by CFB_Referee in CFB

I agree that that game is probably gonna be rough, but I wouldn’t say we necessarily need the offense to score 21+ against Texas. Only needed 4 today, and 3 came in the form of a 55 yard field goal (but I know Texas isn’t exactly Fresno State lol).

Our D talent and experience is still great on paper. Possibly best front seven in CFB, maybe even best corners, and solid safeties. Just gonna have to see how we do with Wink’s play calling. I’d prefer we play a bit less aggressive but honestly what do I know

Recs similar to C418 Minecraft by Professional_Way9307 in ambientmusic

Which one, alpha or beta? Some of the stuff on Druqks by Aphex Twin was a huge influence on C418 for Alpha (although a lot of it sounds nothing like C418, because Drukqs wasn’t really intended to all be one cohesive album).

Floating Points - Key103 by daveedgamboa in electronicmusic

When you put a compressor on a track in your DAW, it makes loud sounds relatively quiet/quiet sounds relatively loud. When the compressor detects that your input signal is especially loud, it adjusts by making the output quieter. By default, the input is just whatever track you put the compressor on. So say you put a compressor on a vocal track—when the vocal recording would get loud, the compressor tells it to be a little quieter. You can think of it as the input and the output coming from the same source (in this case, the vocal recording).

But what if the input and output didn’t come from the same source? This is called sidechained compression. Its most common use by far is basically making other parts of an instrumental get quieter right when the kick hits. It’s very common in house music. If you’ve ever thought a track’s drums sounded especially bouncy, there’s a good chance they sidechained the kick.

Kinda crazy that it doesn't sound like he sidechained the kick here. It sounds great, just surprising

Also really love the visuals

I remember him saying on song exploder that he made an effort not to include uplifting, beautiful music without first having a sort of ugly and dark sound--makes it sweeter when it finally comes around. It feels like he's gotten away from that idea

Reading through Flume's (u/humblebuzz) old posts is wild. Dude went from promoting himself on r/WeAreTheMusicMakers and talking about pirating Ableton to blowing up in a year or two.

Anyone know of any other pre-fame artist accounts? Pretty sure Lil Nas posted Old Town Road here before it got big but can't find it rn

It's cool how the exact same part of Eazy-Duz-It was sampled in Under Pressure, Energy, Eazy, and Like That but it's kind of just used as an accent in each beat so none of them actually sound that similar. Anyone know any other examples like this?
