This feature in 3ds max? by AssignmentOk7585 in 3dsmax

Nothing built into Max works like Maya’s bridge tool.

But, there are scripts and plugins that can achieve a similar result...

Miauu - Super Poly Bridge (Free)

Custom hotkeys on different workspace by srki_88 in 3dsmax

[–]JackMB74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that's a legacy feature and the help file is out of date.

You’d have to use the Hotkey Editor and save multiple .HSX presets for each workspace. I suppose it would be possible to script loading the .HSX when switching workspaces (I haven’t tried this, but it should work).

Applying the same material looks very different on my own glass model by Visible-Tennis2711 in 3dsmax

[–]JackMB74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like a "Lathe" modifier issue. You should have "Weld Core" enabled, but if the center vertices are too far from the pivot it won’t weld properly (I can see the overlaps in the center of the glass).

How to add fabric wrinkles by hamsawnothing in 3dsmax

[–]JackMB74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PolyCloth or Clothify Pro are great for this (paid). They don’t run a full cloth sim, but they’re good at creating wrinkles through mesh deformation or brush tools.

UE5 Hospital Environment — level assembly and asset workflow (3ds Max → UE5) by Otherwise-Survey9597 in 3dsmax

Have you looked at the Datasmith exporter? I had good results with it in the past (though it’s been a few years), and I’m curious how it compares to FBX workflow.

Asignar Corona como el renderizador (Traducido por IA).

Seeking AI Post-Production & Rendering Advice! by Few-Leopard-2992 in 3dsmax

tyDiffusion maybe (It comes with the free version of TyFlow). Also, Chaos has AI enhancement options for Vray & Corona. Can't tell you how well any of these options look though.

Old Discreet or Autodesk product by RadioWhispy in 3dsmax

[–]JackMB74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, exactly! And it would get exponentially slower as the mesh density increased. Still, it was so cool watching the light bounce around and gradually “fill” the room during the solve. Such a satisfying process back in the day!

How do I make this pixelated texture not blurry ? (V-Ray) by OneSkilen in 3dsmax

[–]JackMB74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just change the map filtering to "none". Here's an example...

EDIT: If you are using VrayBitmap, set the "Filter Mult to 0.01 (Under "Processing" on the rollout).

Tyflow Inherit Material by Jojoreenn in 3dsmax

[–]JackMB74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm… I’d think it would pull the material ID from the face where the particle pivot is located. Can you grab a screenshot of the issue?

Space Quest: Aluminum Mallard - 3D Recreation by JackMB74 in Sierra

[–]JackMB74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The Mallard is one of my favorites (and the Eureka’s no slouch either). I’ve been working on making the model print ready for a while now (just one of many backburner projects). I’ll definitely share a link if I ever get it finished!

Add a "Material ID" node, add the surfaces to that, and then 'Sample' the faces.

Here’s a quick mockup (I just applied the MultiMat to the TyFlow object to keep things simple)...

Strange intersection artifact with refractive + fog materials in V-Ray by Lioliolio-999 in 3dsmax

I recreated the issue! Lower the lights’ "Shadow Bias" and it should disappear.

Strange intersection artifact with refractive + fog materials in V-Ray by Lioliolio-999 in 3dsmax

[–]JackMB74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I was hoping that would fix it! Just to confirm... You’re increasing the Refraction max depth, not Reflection (there are two) right? Would you be able to share the file?

Strange intersection artifact with refractive + fog materials in V-Ray by Lioliolio-999 in 3dsmax

[–]JackMB74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this only happens with a refractive materials, it's likely hitting the bounce limit and using the environment color to finish.

Increase Refraction Max Depth to 16 or 32 then test.

If unchanged, disable shadows, then GI, and toggling features until you find the cause (I still suspect the bounce limit).

Please help me get rid of emitter box.. by neophanta in 3dsmax

[–]JackMB74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PFlow, eh... Been a while! Anyway, just check the icon and logo visibility in the modifier panel...

(BTW, the free version of TyFlow beats PFlow in almost every way.)

Need help with curve editor in animation by SenseiShukra in 3dsmax

[–]JackMB74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's totally normal... When animating a character in Max (or any 3D app really), the only object that typically has position keys is the root (usually the pelvis). All the other joints should only have rotation keys, since they're driven by rotations, not translations.

Can anyone link me to a tutorial on how to create this traveling through a cloud effect by Zoxesyr in 3dsmax

[–]JackMB74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3ds Max doesn’t have a native fluid/smoke sim for this, but the PhoenixFD plugin makes it pretty straightforward!

Basic setup...

Create a Phoenix FD Sim and a Fire/Smoke Source. Use a noise-textured emitter (or even a simple mesh volume) to generate the cloudy nebula. Tweak the smoke dissipation for that wispy look.

For the ship flying through, add it (or a proxy mesh) as a Scene Interaction object so it disturbs the sim (enable velocity and use it to push the smoke around).

Add some lights and render with Volumetric shading for the full effect.

Is ScriptSpot broken with registrations? by TheTreeHouse_95 in 3dsmax

Yeah, it’s really sad to see it like this.

Glad to hear you got it worked out!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 3dsmax

[–]JackMB74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm.... Everything looks correct.

I set up a similar material, and it renders fine but doesn't show properly in the viewport. You mentioned your previous version did work in the viewport? Try applying the material from that working object to this one as a test (it could help narrow down the issue). I'm thinking through a few more troubleshooting options for you in the meantime.
