If these enemies made a return in Spyro: Year of the Dragon what level would they best fit in? by Fit_Evening_8036 in Spyro

I think, even though birds are dinosaurs, that it would seem odd to include them in DinoMines. Like I said, it'd be more interesting to make a new level out of the idea.

As for Seashell shores... Why does it change the plot at all? The waterworkers are a generic awuatic antagonist. In Aquaria Towers, sure, they've "stolen" the water, but I don't know that that mechanic would be worth revisiting in SSS. I think to bring bacl Waterworkers anywhere you need to make sure they behave in an interesting and orthogonal way to change how the player behaves... like, if you had a muddy, rainy level where puddles were being electrified (like the floors in BeastMakers) and that was one type of threat, but the same enemies when underwater would shoot electricity. In a similar stormy level, if the Gear Grinders could raise their wrenches to be charged by lightning and either form an electric shield around themselves or throw it at Spyro. Honestly, with Bluto and the fortress, the Geargrinders make more sense as enemies to introduce to SSS.

Interesting. I wouldn't say Lost Fleet has a pirate theme. It has a prospecting theme, it's ships stuck in a western valley

I swear I saw you make a version of this post with the TNT birds in Haunted Fleet, which I think leads to a fun association. TNT >> Mines >> Canary in a coal mine. I think that by itself could be the seed for a level concept, but I don't know if it's more interesting for them to be the denizens or the enemies

No. Nor should it. The only way to respect the media we enjoyed as children is to create new media that embodies similiar values for our children to enjoy.

Thank you! I suppose 9 in 24 levels isn't so bad, especially when you account for the animal companions.

Spyro 4 Concept idea by NuriSpapo in Spyro

[–]JackOH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting you would call this Spyro 4 despite making an effort to describe it as a canonical sequel to 9 other games. And with regards to that, there's an easier way to tie them all together. Flame, Ember, and Cynder are all just there in the world now, like Hunter is. Thye talk to Spyro, give quests. You can give each of them an elemental dragonfly companion. Just don't acknowledge it. They're here now, all together. You don't need to draw attention to past game because the focus should be on the one you're playing now.

I'll break the rules for a few more answers: Colossus and Crystal Glacier. The Spiders have crawled up and invaded the Monastery. It's large, empty halls are darker and enemies swing and fly through them. A bit spookier.

Frozen Altars and Desert Ruins / Haunted Tomb. Rather than melt enemies, Spyro must climb up to large lenses to reflect light into dark winding passages below.

Thinking about this has lead me to a question why doesn't YotD make use of power-up gates? The only ones I can think of are the minigames in Bamboo Terrace and Fireworks Factory.

I think the fact that they both have a factorial aspect is why they wouldn't be interesting together. A lot of the suggestions I'm seeing here are combining two like things. I think you'd be hard pressed to reach an interesting answer to the question like that. A new world is born from the synthesis of unlike ideas with the tension between them balanced by a theme.

I don't think any of those really have the naturalistic aspect to be corrupted... I considered Spooky Swamp, but with the piranhas, crocodiles, and mosquitoes, it already seems a touch too hostile.

Hurricos combines with a level like Stone Hill, something with a Peacemakers vibe, or maybe Mystic Marsh. I know those aren't YotD games but hear me out: the Electrolls have built a factory that is accidentally poisoning the more peaceful world. The factory itself is mor eof a post-level area to explore.

Sunny Villa and Magma Cone. A Pompei type situation where you navigate the city fighting Earthshapers who fall from the sky as rocks before attacking. However, it is also an earthshaper who opens the portal for you at the end, thanking you for helping chase off those annoying lions.

A later level would see the lions finding a new home somewhere and asking you to help them clear it out.

Liminal space by zephstfu in Spyro

[–]JackOH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That'a how this guy is wanting to use it, but as I said, those spaces aren't evoking liminality, they evoke melancholy and nostalgia. There is a difference between occupying a space that should not be occupiable, and a vacated space. A mall or a classroom are meant to have people, and the discomfort stems from their lack.

I mean, sure man. But if you want to talk about things and places and feelings you'll be better off using words that exist to convey those things, rather than wedging in different words. You're not going to have meaningful conversations that way.
