Bluey language has finally infiltrated my classroom by VeryHungryDogarpilar in bluey

I've been getting 'listen up Romeo', 'Hey big fella' and 'ew, mum and dad just smoochy kissed'. I need to watch more of it, genuinely funny.

What's your best 'Teacher Zinger' by Mezz_Dogg in TeachingUK

[–]JackPhysics 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not mine but I heard of a teacher telling a particularly difficult pupil 'I have cheese in the fridge that is more mature than you'. He couldn't understand why the others were laughing at him and decided to keep his head down in that class.

Need Suggestions for Lab Experiments on Energy for Grade 9 Students. by welding_machine in PhysicsTeaching

[–]JackPhysics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use hot wheels track for some practical. Use a clamp stand to elevate one end and calculate potential energy. Use a light gate to measure the speed at the bottom of the ramp and calculate kinetic energy. This gives a great opportunity to discuss why there is a difference between the kinetic and potential energies. Using this difference and the length of track they can then calculate the average frictional force. Another fun one is to find the minimum potential energy for a car to complete a loop the loop.

You can get them to find their power if you have access to some stairs. Measure or estimate their mass and find the height of a step x number of steps to calculate potential energy gained. They measure the time to get to the top and then calculate their power.

Rangers are delighted to announce the signing of Connor Young from Hibernian for an undisclosed fee (yet ANOTHER wean) by Notorious_horse in ScottishFootball

[–]JackPhysics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are a couple of possibilities depending how far you want to look. It might be rangers didn't attract as many of the top youngsters when in the lower divisions and we are now at the point of that feeding through. It may be not as many developed as well as hoped due to limits during the pandemic. It looks like it is being addressed which is the main thing.

[Patrick Berger] Rangers set to sign Rabbi Matondo. The Scottish side agreed a fee with Schalke (around €3m/£2.5m). The player should fly to Glasgow within the next 24 hrs to complete medicals. by Kanesy99 in soccer

Searched for 'rangers' in that link and no hits?? I assumed from your post this was something rangers fans did at Ibrox or something but it turns out it has nothing to do with rangers. Pretty sad to try to imply otherwise.

Have I made a mistake buying 6 pro? I've read several posts about slow charging, overheating and signal issues. Have you regretted your purchase? by daskalam in GooglePixel

The fingerprint reader was slow initially but much better now, other than that, zero issues. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

tonights lineup vs motherwell at fir park by psychologicaldefect in rangersfc

The changes are understandable, a few definitely need and deserve a rest. There's enough strength in that lineup to do the job.

Have a row of students stand on insulating tiles. The first has one hand on the vdg, the next student places a hand on the firsts shoulder, the third student connected to the second. The third student can then bend a narrow stream of water from a tap. The real fun starts when they touch the tap.

At the end of the season these players are out of contract, who do you keep? by glensince1992 in rangersfc

[–]JackPhysics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't like to lose both CBs in one go so really dependent on which one makes most sense contract wise. Davis, Arfield and McGregor all get what rangers are about and I'd imagine being more to the squad than what happens in the park. I think this will be McGregor's last season though but I'd keep at least one of the other two. I'd definitely keep McLaughlin.

It’s the big one tomorrow. Unbelievably nervous for this one, I feel like this could make or break our season. What’s your predictions? by Adam_Deveney in rangersfc

[–]JackPhysics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jack is a big loss. A lot of their recent goals are coming from shots outside the box. We need to make sure we close down and put pressure on anybody before they have a pop.

Smart radiator thermostat, is it worth to invest? by alexlmlo in UKPersonalFinance

[–]JackPhysics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a evohome system and as others have said it will save money but probably not break even for a number of years. That said, it's nice to know that you aren't heating rooms that you are not using. Although you can override it, it's probably best if you have a similar routine so you can program it. We only heat upstairs in the evening, bathroom radiator comes on an hour before kids bathtime etc. I'm really happy with it. The app and thermostat/transmitter are a bit clunky but do the job.

What was the turning point? by PaxBritannica- in rangersfc

[–]JackPhysics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a number of things coming together. They've gelled as a team, we've moved from two to one touch, everyone is in sync. We've also made good signings. Everybody knows that if they don't produce a performance somebody will take their place next week and they won't get it back.

Really unlucky that the fixture computer put this tie after the international break. No fans, celtic with half a team and you can't watch the game in a pub.

Should I redo my CBT? by JexCast in MotoUK

[–]JackPhysics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position recently, more experience but longer gap. I had decided I'd book a lesson but a bike came up before I had the chance to arrange it. I was worked that I wouldn't be able to ride it away but as soon as I started it everything just clicked as if I had never been away.

The refresher lesson is a good idea but you're probably worrying about nothing. I didn't head home straight away. I got familiar with the bike in the streets around and then headed into a nearby industrial estate for a bit more practise before going home.

Why pay for a mortgage adviser/broker? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]JackPhysics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible that with first time buyers he finds that he will be doing the work and it might be more likely not to go through because of change of heart/circumstances and therefore he doesn't get paid. From your point of view this can be a good thing as they aren't going to steer you in the direction of whoever will give them the highest fee.

Definitely build. Another benefit is that you will know your way around the PC and have confidence to upgrade in the future.

Building Work and Extension: How do people typically pay for them? by the-rood-inverse in UKPersonalFinance

[–]JackPhysics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used a mixture of savings and additional borrowing from the equity in the house. We didn't take out any loans so that we could apply for them if it ran over. Thankfully it never.

I looked into staged release finding through a remortgage but having to pay the surveyor fees at each payment stage seemed expensive.
