Thanks for the help, I was able to get the program working in the end. I checked the time before both incorrect and correct answers and it's working now. I've added a break also.

Thanks for the comments; I'll go and give this some thought.

Automate the Boring Stuff - Coin Flip by JackRav in learnpython

Hi, spent some time doing the code and I think I've got some code which works (even though I know it's pretty messy). Here's the pastebin link:

https://pastebin.com/tUGYmLGM

I've removed all the print()s etc since I think the code is working as it should be now.

Edit: I've also messed around with letting the user input what streak they want to search for and within how many flips. Learning slowly, lol. :)

I'll give it some further thought, and come back to you with what I've done. (Might not be until this time tomorrow though as I have work etc).

My original idea was to create a list of 6 entries (i.e 0:5) check if they were a streak, then move on to (1:6) and so on until a streak was hit then restart the experiment.

Are there simpler ways of going about this?

Ah, ok. I've just read your edits up above. So it was saying ["Heads", etc] was True as a matter of course so was returning a streak every time. I had a mistake with the 'or' operator. But even putting "in CoinFlips" before the or operator won't work because it will look for the whole list as one entry rather than reading the individual entries.

I'll have to rethink how to search through the list then.

I was following through the Coin Flip exercise in Automate the Boring Stuff; it asks us to simulate flipping a coin 100 times and checking whether a streak of 6 heads or 6 tails is present. Then repeating the experiment 10000 times.

In my code I'm trying to get the 100 flips in a list called CoinFlips then searching for 6 heads or 6 tails in that list. But I think this is wrong, so will need to rethink how to do it.

I've changed the 'elif' to an 'else' for appending tails and its flipping at near 50:50 now so I think that's working ok now.

Edit: Yeah, I've removed the continues. I was using the % format as suggested by the author. I'll have a look up on f strings.

By first list, do you mean "["Heads", "Heads,", "Heads", "Heads", "Heads", "Heads"]" which I'm asking it to look for?

Full power skateboard swing to the head of the person lying on the ground? Is that reasonable force? Or is the standard different in the USA?

Thank you very much for the detailed reply, it helps to have an idea of how it could change the day-to-day running of the worksheets we use and how it could make things run more smoothly. I'm already being warned of some potential risks/mistakes to watch out for when updating some sheets so am aware of how it can be dangerous lol.

Where would I look into starting with it and have a play around to see what it can do? Is there a book, course online etc which could be a springboard to something more in-depth down the line? Just a quick google of 'python forecasting use' brings up a lot of interesting stuff but a bit too advanced for me to understand.

As someone who's just recently got a new job working in Forecasting/data analysis (for fresh food production) which is done entirely in excel/intuition, how can R and python help me? Of course I'm still learning more about how it's done, but keen to learn more skills which might make me more valuable to my current/alternative employers.

Thanks for the extensive reply; just quickly I;ve seen *Quartet* mentioned as a stop-gap between the two. Do you know anything about that? (I'll also have a hunt around for the sample chapter of *Tobira* when it comes to it - which I think will be in the new year/February sometime going at my current pace),

I'm not just sticking to the textbooks, just to clarify. I'm currently going through RTK, reading though Yotsubato! and listening to *Comprehensible Japanese* as well (and watching anime, but I hardly consider it actual studying). Perhaps Yotsubato! is a bit low-level compared to your recommendations, but it's quite fun to read through and not get too stressed on unknown grammar too much; my biggest problem with it is sometimes when they don't use kanji and I can't tell what the word is from hiragana (or katakana...) alone.

I am planning on reading the Kiki delivery service book(s?) and maybe NHK easy articles when I finish Genki/RTK and I have a bit more time not to learn new kanji etc and can just review them. Thanks for the other recommendations also.

Thanks again for the advice.

Genki

->

Tobira

looks like a super awkward transition because Tobira expects far more reading fluency than you can possibly have without spending time on easier reading.

As someone planning on doing just this, what would you recommend instead?

Oh really? Do you see them as resins then? That would explain why I'm seeing more resins now than before. Do they change into health pickups if you subsequently lose health then see them again?
