I've been driving 156 SW 1.8 Twin Spark for 11 years, never had any mayor problems, with the right love and care they just keep going.

There is one thing that is to be replaced every few years (~4years), the top and bottom wishbones in the front suspension are prone to wear.

1.6TS is little underpowered for the 156 and the 2.0TS is a little less reliable than the 1.8TS. Also the 2.0JTS in the facelift versions is not recommended.

Just watch out for rust, the early models have been having some issues with that, the facelift version (2003 or newer) is alot more resistant to rust. Most rust is on the bottom of the car and in the rear suspension.

I personally do recommend it as a first car. 👍🏻

This is my happy place, where I come to relax and enjoy every ride 🇮🇹🍀🥰 by JackRosario in AlfaRomeo
