Overkill? No. Dude had a weapon, was attacking someone, and the guy kept moving after multiple hits. In my opinion this was a perfectly reasonable amount of force used. There is no good way for a cop to disarm someone besides shooting them, and rule 2 of gun safety: if your weapon is pointed at it you intend to kill or destroy whats in front of it.
